Customer Reviews

Very good book-CD -practical approach+ clear explanations5
This book/Cd package covers the rock/blues harp subject well. It uses "stories" about cartoon characters to explain some of the concepts. Although you do need to do as JON says and have the harp in your hands and mouth as you listen to the CD. The key is to try each single note/chord out at the same time as he tells you. You really need to "jam along" right from the begining. At first, I thought the cross reference to the CD was not as clear as I would have liked - but this only seems the case if you don't "play along" as told. The book covers things in a progressive way, but the CD seems to go at a different pace. At first this caused me some problems but I was expecting a page by page correspondance with the CD. You need to skip from the book to the Cd and back again. Once I took this approach the real value of the package became evident. Over all an excellent tutor which brings good results very quickly with even modest practise.

The best book for beginners.5
This is about the fourth book that I bought to try and learn the harmonica and it's definitely the best: I just wish I'd got this one first and saved myself some money. If you're an absolute beginner with no knowledge of music theory then this book is for you and it will take you right up to intermediate standard.

The cd is excellent almost worth the price of the book on it's own. Buy it you won't regret it!

Rock 'n' Blues Harmonica4
Wow! This book is fast paced and Jon is very enthusiastic but there are not many tunes in it which is a shame. It would appeal to someone who intends to jam with others but if you are a lone player like me it left a bit of a hole. It mainly teaches riffs and how to string them together when jamming. Could have done without the caveman story throughout the book and just be given facts and practice pieces. I had to laugh when listening to the CD, Jon puffs and grunts throughout his playing and sometimes it's a bit difficult to follow because you need to keep refering to the book and he jumps from page to page. The illustations are OK but as I said i just want the meat and not a side story to pad it out a bit. Glad I didn't pay £24 like Amazon quoted but for £8-ish from Aphrohead it was reasonable value for money.
