Product Description

Mr Pond was a small, neat civil servant. There was nothing remarkable about him at all - except a pointed beard. However, he tells the most fascinating stories and has the most unorthodox way of solving crimes and mysteries. These eight short stories include the extraordinary 'The Three Horsemen of the Apocalypse' about a Marshal's plans which go tragically wrong because, paradoxically, his soldiers obey him.

Editorial Reviews

Review
Posthumous volume containing Chesterton in his most delightfully inconsequential mood, telling yarns through his mouthpiece, Mr. Pond. For instance, there is the tale of two men who agree so completely that one just naturally murders the other. Mr. Pond demonstrates by a charming rambling method of quibbling and brain teasing. Chesterton was past master in the subtle art of intelligent tormenting. A deft storyteller, his paradoxes here seem more convincing than the unpremediated ones of his soberer work. A refreshing book.
