Young and charismatic, Steven Cane has known nothing but success and popularity in his first term of office as Prime Minister. Yet there is one thing that he craves above anything else - to be the first leader of his party to achieve a second term. And no one is more determined to help him achieve that end than the feisty, flame-haired beauty constantly by his side: his spin doctor Charlie Redpath. Her guile and genius has helped Cane establish a seemingly unassailable lead over the weak and divided Opposition. But as the General Election approaches, problems start to mount up.
What is wrong with the PM's wife Lucy? Why does she loathe Charlie? Is Cane's bitter rival Gareth Greaves plotting against him? Will Chancellor of the Exchequer Ronnie Silverman live to regret his liaison dangereuse?
Charlie has sacrificed everything for Cane, but power is not all she lusts after - as Greaves well knows.
This brilliant debut novel by Simon Walters, political editor of the Mail on Sunday, looks at what happens when the control freaks who have spun themselves into power lose control of events, emotions and deeply ingrained enmities. Any resemblance to any persons living or dead...

Customer Reviews
All Hail Charlie Redpath!!
The book appears to have ringing endorsements from all kinds of MP's, if the quotes on the cover are anything to go by.
The relationships and intricate plot make this book an absolute joy....it's got everything....the queen coming unstuck, bed hopping, sleazy hacks, Gay MP's still in the closet...
And Charlie Redpath? What a ball-breaker! It was great to read about a truely ruthless, flawed, strong and independent woman!
Yet there are sensitive touches..an abuse case it handled really well, as are some of the scenes between the PM and his wife and children.
Thoughtful, sensitive, thrilling and outrageous. To have all of that in one book makes it well worth the money.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
A very enlightening read
I read this book as I was interested in studying politics at university and thought that it would be a good way to learn a little about the office of prime minister. I was not prepared to be so engrossed in an interesting story. The storyline is believeable and does make you wonder how much is drawn from reality. The story also allows you to learn about what occurs behind that infamous door. Simon Walters writes in an easy to read style that will have you entertained for hours. A brilliant read!
