Disappointing
This book was a great disappointment to me. It tries to give the air of a book of scholarship but it falls very short. It concentrates heavily on the American so-called wits and ignores brilliant exponents such as Wilde, Shaw, Chesterton et al (not entirely but there are not enough examples of these in comparison with the transatlantic sources which are generally only smart but not funny). Unless you are entirely new to this subject, the book is a waste of time and money.
