The Frost Nixon Interviews are now recognised as one of the great media events of the Twentieth Century. First broadcast in May 1977, they drew the biggest ever worldwide audience for a news programme. Forty-five million people watched in America alone. During twenty eight and three quarter gruelling hours, Frost questioned Nixon on everything from Vietnam to China, from abuse of power to the Final Days. But the most tense and gripping sessions were on Watergate. Two whole days were devoted to the subject, which culminated in the unprecedented sight of Nixon apologising to his people. Now a major Universal Pictures film, interest in the original Watergate interview will be immense as a new generation wants to watch the historic events that the movie is based on. Frost Nixon has been nominated for a record five Golden Globes and five Oscars, including the coveted Best Picture award. This limited edition, double DVD set contains the original series of four interviews as broadcast on worldwide TV in 1977, as well as a new interview with Sir David Frost, filmed in 2008.

Synopsis
The pungent interview between British TV host David Frost and former President Richard Nixon in 1977 was a groundbreaking moment in American politics. This candid conversation--which some have compared to a boxing match--ended with the weary, impeached leader accepting guilt for the Watergate scandal. The famed tete-a-tete became the basis for the play FROST/NIXON, in turn adapted into a movie directed by Ron Howard.

Unique!!!
Far from wasting time and eating up the clock through long-winded answers, as the 'Frost-Nixon' movie would imply, this dvd shows that Nixon answered every question directly and in detail. It certainly does illustrate the movie's accuracy in depicting how thoroughly the former President had prepared, and the importance he had attached to the interviews. I think anyone watching this will be forced to ask whether there has been a President in the same intellectual league as Nixon since! A socially awkward intoverted deep thinker, RN was elected to the presidency at a time when elections had not degenerated into sound-bites and photo-ops to the extent of today, when it seems the most important thing is an easy manner and a winning smile when a camera appears!! In these interviews, Nixon also comes across as far more human and likeable than you might expect, and it is hard not to feel something for him. Historians born after Nixon's death will ultimately judge his standing, weighing the good things he did (more civil rights acts passed than JFK & LBJ together, the opening of China to the West, and detente with Russia which reduced the chances of Mutual Assured Destruction and laid the foundations for the implosion of communism) against the bad (failing to deal effectively with the actions of llow level zealots), and these interviews will be a unique resource for that.
Being someone already interested in the US presidency, I was riveted from the first minute to the last. Others may be less enthralled, but anyone who has any interest in the subject will find this rewarding viewing.
FROST NIXON FULL LENGTH INTERVIEWS
If you are interested in world affairs or the political machinations of the 70s,then this is for you.
What this alleged trial by television does is reverse most peoples attitudes and criticism of a fallen President.Nixon comes away from this documentary with justification for most of his actions during his presidency.
His Foreign Policies are and were without doubt, the most successful to date, bringing stability and detente to the Western world regarding Soviet and Chinese relations, thereby opening up dialogue regarding Nuclear bans and ensuring a World peace that has lasted to this day.
Highly recommended viewing.
Insight into a Great Mind
Nixon had a deeper understanding of world affairs than any other post-war president, and his achievement in foreign policy was second only to Reagan's, the latter being in the fortunate position of holding office during the final collapse of the Soviet Union. This fuller version of the Nixon interviews shows the man in the round and presents a more balanced picture than the Watergate only version.
