Introducing the new World Order...
This book is a wonderfully comprehensive intro to the new Era of Baha'u'llah, His teachings are expounded in a lucid and structured manner that I found both informative and readable. It is interesting to note that Abdu'l-Baha collaborated with the author in the completion of this work, providing authoritative suggetions as well as editing a number of chapters before His passing. I highly recommend this book for those interested in learning more about the Baha'i Faith.

Still the classic introduction
Many years, and many editions and reprintings, after it first appeared this book still remains the classic introduction to the Baha'i Faith. The author was an early Scottish Baha'i whose close involvement with the leading figures of the religion gave him a unique insight which still informs the text today. It is comprehensive although inevitably it tends to be more detailed on the history and on the broad sweep of the Baha'i teachings: those seeking a detailed exposition of recent developments will have to look elsew here. But as an introduction to this religion - now the world's second most widespread after Christianity - it stands the test of time and speaks clearly to us now.

New to the Baha'i Faith?
I've recently met and become friends with someone who is of the Baha'i Faith - she is the most peaceful and serene person and I wanted some of that ! Once a practicing Christian, and now disillusioned, I have, however, deep Christian roots, but am on a spiritual quest. I wanted to explore this new faith to see if I could glean the answers I'm so desperate for - but it offers nothing new I'm afraid. One thing I do like about it is that it echoes my own belief that all faiths/religions are as one and they should be viewed as such - this would eliminate a lot of the aggression in the world today as many conflicts are fuelled by differing religious beliefs at each others throats, so to speak. If, like me, everyone embraced all faiths as one, much of the world's wars would cease (hopefully - unless the root cause is not, after all, to do with religion but more to do with mankind's greed for power). The Baha'i faith seems to be an amalgamation of many faiths, they believe that not only Jesus Christ was manifest on earth as God's Messenger/Messiah, but that there were many more such Messengers/Messiahs, including Mohammed, Zoroaster, Jesus Christ (as said before) and finally Baha'u'llah, the founder of the Baha'i faith who lived in the late 19th and early 20th century. They believe that all these Messengers were manifest on the earth at different times when mankind needed guidance, but that the time of peace and light is almost upon us. They also believe, which I like, that the veil between this physical world and the spiritual world to come is very thin, and communication can be made with spiritual beings "on the other side". This book is very old and written in extremely flowery prose, quite hard going as it is translated from Persian. It would be interesting to read a more up to date version written in a more modern way. However, it does give a good overview of this faith for anyone interested in exploring it.
