CD Description
One Love is an ambitious, ingeniously crafted album that sets forth nothing less than a bold and beautiful manifesto for global pop and dance domination. The huge number of A-listers who flocked to guest on this album also make it one of the most star-studded album projects of 2009. Kelly Rowland, for example, was moved to tears at first hearing the instrumental work-in-progress that became "When Love Takes Over" on the dance floor at Guetta’s famed F*** Me I’m Famous party in Cannes, greeted him in the DJ booth, and was later given the track to write to. Similarly, will.i.am had first approached Guetta to contribute to the club-inspired album planned by Black Eyed Peas--Energy Never Dies-–and their collaboration snowballed to include two tracks on One Love; the out-of-control "I Wanna Go Crazy" and "On the Dancefloor" joined by apl.de.ap, a fresh evocation of the hip-hop/house fusions of the late 1980s.
Throughout the agenda-setting One Love, Guetta serves up a body-rocking, all-embracing blend of hip-hop, soul and electro-–an audacious fusion that's been sorely missed ever since rap and dance audiences became polarized at the turn of the 1990s. With a global following of nearly five million celebrants at over 200 DJ performances in 2008 attesting to his musical authority, it’s no wonder that Guetta has emerged as a catalyst and a curator of an exciting musical hybrid, his magical producer’s touch bringing out the best in all his collaborators--even as accomplished a hook-meister as Akon, who sings the album track "Sexy Bitch".
A rare dance album spotlighting its vocalists as well as its beats--each singer cast flawlessly in tracks tailored to their individual qualities--every one of One Love's vocal collaborations is marked by arresting hooks, inventive musical development, and compelling humanistic messages. Notable among the guests who leave truly personal stamps on each song is Chris Willis, Estelle, Kelly Rowland, Kid Cudi, Wynter, and Makeba.
Customer Reviews
Good, not great.
I became a huge Guetta fan in 2003 after hearing 'Just A Little More Love' in the football factory. His first two albums 'Just A Little More Love' and 'Guetta Blaster' feature some of the finest house and dance tracks this side of the millenium. His third album 'Pop Life' had some quality music but lacked the edge and class of his first two offerings. His latest album 'One Love' features commercial names such as Akon, Ne-Yo, Kelly Rowland, Will I Am, Kid Cudi and so on. Chris Willis has less of a role in this album and that combined with a somewhat watered down sound for a mainstream audience makes it, in my opinion, weaker than his previous works. 'Memories', 'Missing you', 'Choose' and the three tracks featuring Chris Willis are all worth a listen though. As said in the title- good, not great.
One brilliant album!
One Love is an excellent album, I can`t stop playing it. The Special Edition one hasn`t actually got 16 tracks on CD 1, only 14 though but it has the awesome CD 2, wow, it is sooooo good. Just love the current No. 1 single `Sexy Chick` with Akon, also `When Love Takes Over` is on there with Kelly Rowland. BHF it`s damn good, go buy it NOW!!
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear......
This is the kind of thing that gives House Music a bad name. From the first to the last track nothing but tired old beats and totally naff, commercially-driven hooks that are suitable for the 6-10 year old age bracket. Dj's like Guetta and his ilk are force-fed onto the public as the acceptable, industry approved face of dance music. Music for the backward generation I call it.
Can it be true that the last great youth revolution that was intent on mass insurrection, fighting for the right to party, that questioned and challenged the very foundations of the world around us through the power of unifiying music and shared consciousness has been turned against those that sowed the seeds 25 years ago by 'the powers that be' into mindless fodder to keep the ignorant masses under control? On hearing this, the answer has to be a heart-breaking and soul-destroying 'yes'.
Don't buy this nonsense. Go check out someone decent like Doc Marten instead!
