The Occupation of the Channel Islands is one of the lesser known stories of the Second World War. It was the only example of British and Germans living side by side, a living breathing example of what was to come if the Germans conquered the British Isles. This uneasy, frightening and sometimes violent Occupation, set against the backdrop of one of the largest fortification programs initiated by the Nazi forces, became a unique microcosm very much apart from the war raging around the Islands.
