Synopsis
Martial artists require a unique physical training program, one that ensures that powerful attacking and rapid counter attacking techniques can be used in self-defense performed over the full course of any contest or practice. In "Fitness for Full-Contact Fighters", trainer, author and fighter Christoph Delp presents a fitness training program expertly tailored to the martial arts. The book, amply illustrated with spectacular photographs from renowned photographers, details the basics of martial arts fitness training and offers an in-depth description of its various elements: flexibility, stamina and power. The exercises are described in detail and presented step-by-step by leading martial artists. The book focuses on planning and monitoring one's training and includes complete training programs as well as extensive advice on the proper diet. With this guide, martial artists at all skill levels, from newcomers to those at an advanced level, vastly improve their ability to perform in training and competition.

Customer Reviews

Fitness for Full-contact Fighters5
The book describes how as a martial artist you can also train to improve your fitness. In addition, an excellent description is given of the basic principles for training stamina, flexibility, weight training and diet. Lots of stretching exercises and strength exercises are shown - with everything made easy to understand with clear pictures. The strength exercises comprise exercises with weights and body weight exercises. Furthermore, training plans are presented which are easy to follow thanks to the pictures.
The book is aimed at martial artists in all disciplines. It is highly suitable for people just beginning fitness training. However, people at an advanced level will already be familiar with many of the exercises. The book is attractive, well written and contains motivating pictures.

only ok3
I found this book a little disappointing. Having read others by Loren Christensen for example, this title did not compare well. Very generalised information, the workouts would have been better had they been structured, i.e., warmup, exercise 1, 10reps, 3 sets, increase weight by this amount etc. Overall, a little lightweight. It would be great if an author released a proper training manual for the martial arts with structured week by week programmes of safe, effective exercises.
