Major flaw
I have now lost 2 Nike+ sensors using this equipment. The 'lid' has now come off 2 of these RunAway things meaning myself and my wife now have to purchase new Nike+ kits. The RunAway is flawed in 2 major ways, the lids does not stay shut and with the sensor bumping against the cover it simply comes away AND the way in which the RunAway clips to your laces is just not secure enough with both of us suffering from it unclipping and starting to swivel.
Don't waste your fiver, get the pouch style or bring forward your new trainer purchase and get a pair of Nikes.
Such a shame.
Very good concept, with a few possible improvements
I just had my first few runs with the RunAway for iPod. I am currently very pleased with the concept. The installation of the iPod Sports kit sensor was very easy, the attachment onto my shoelaces went effortlessly.
Being an engineer, I do have some doubts about the design though... The attachment of the kit onto the shoelaces is done by rotating the upper part open, sliding the lower part under your laces and rotating the upper part close again. This catches the shoelaces between upper and lower part.
When worn, the rotation happens from the bottom up, against gravity. That means with every step, the closure system needs to take care of the acceleration of your foot touching the ground and gravity pull. If the rotation would have happened at the top side, rotating down, gravity and the acceleration would have actually helped to keep the RunAway attached to your shoe.
The other remark I have is the type of locking that is used. As far as I can see, it will be susceptible to wear and tear when opening it a lot.
As I have currently little experience (a few runs), these might be unnecessary worries. If I can confirm them however, I'll come back here to do so.
Cheers.
Oh dear....
There are a couple of problems with this, firstly the button on the base - which switches the unit off - actually loosens the top, I nearly lost my precious Nike+. The second one is that the swivel fastening is not that crisp and it often swings open mid-workout.
A good idea, poorly executed.
