The Denon AH-C551 inner-ear stereo headphones are machined from a high quality aluminium ensuring a high-quality base to house Denon's Acoustic Optimiser Technology which ensures that the earphones bring out the ideal acoustic characteristics of your music. Canal-type design to bring the music directly into your ear. Acoustic optimizer structure to bring out ideal acoustic characteristics. Acoustic optimizer characteristics are achieved by adjusting the sound pressure balance in front of and behind the diaphragm. Machined aluminum housing is used for optimum sound quality and strength. Canal-type inner ear headphones reduce ambient noise and lets you enjoy the music more. Tangle-resistant cable is also easy to store. Gold-plated stereo mini jack. CNET.co.uk Review (Rated 8.5/10): These are absolutely superb earphones and blow almost all the competition out of the water. They're exceptionally clear with smooth powerful bass and meaty mids. As an all-rounder these take the gold medal... CNET.com Review (Rated 7.5/10 Very Good): The Denon AH-C551 In-Ear Headphones offer nice balanced audio quality. They're definitely not as bass-heavy as V-moda models so if you prefer a more even sound this is the place to look. Still the AH-C551s are not incapable of pumping out the bass especially for tracks heavy on the low-end... Macworld Review (Rated 5/5 & Editors' Choice): If you’re prepared to pay over £50 for a set of headphones then we don’t believe you’ll be at all disappointed with these. They coped with everything between R&B and acoustic music playback. You can spend an awful lot more than this on headphones and you won’t notice the difference...

Simply Incredible
Pairing my Sony NWZA818 with a pair of Senheisser CX300 ear phones was, I thought, about as good as personal MP3 sound can get. I was wrong! These Denon AH-C551 phones deliver staggering sound quality. The depth of bass and clarity of treble defies belief. Don't misunderstand me, the Senheisser phones are absolutely superb and great value but the Denon phones are in another league altogether.
They may seem expensive but I subscribe to the view that you get what you pay for. What you get here is incredible and worth every penny.
How can something this small produce this kind of base?!?
I've had a pair of Sennheiser HD595's for quite a while now, however i wanted something I could use with my iPod down the gym. Having stuck with the headphones that came with the iPod for a while now, I just couldn't take the tinny sound any longer and I cracked! I thought i'd go with another pair of Sennheiser's again, though after seeing a lot of average reviews for the in-ear Sennheiser pairs, i thought i'd try something else.
The price of these may seem high, but trust me, the sound from these equals (if not betters) the pair of 595's i currently have, and from in-ear headphones, that is really saying something! After listening to my extensive range of music for a few hours now (i'll probably go deaf later!) they seem to be able to cope with anything you throw at them. Listen to something by Pendulum and you'll hear what I mean.
On a couple of tracks, you almost get the sort of base you hear from chavs with 6x9's in the back of their Corsa (the sort of base you feel in your chest - even though you hate the driver of said vehicle!).
They also hold in your ear really well. I also owned a pair of the in-ear headphones from Apple (not the ones you get with an ipod - the other ones!), and they were ok, but kept falling out of my ears while down the gym. These Denon's are the opposite. They are even able to support the weight of my ipod video swinging on the cable (the older, heavy one) for a short while before finally falling out of my ears.
Overall, great pair of headphones!
The only annoying point was that mine came in one of those annoying plastic boxes (blister pack??) that no-one can open without ruining a pair of scissors!!
Great sound, not too good finishing.
What needs to be done has been done, the sound quality is amazing; the bass is nice and warm and doesn't distort with even the bassiest of bass's..., the mid's are great and let you hear things other headphones just don't bring out and the high's are very acceptable for 'phones in this price range with only minor wailing up the very top end and with them on full blast. The volume is also decent, having these this close to your eardrums just can't be safe, but, i enjoy it. :)
The only bad point i can find in these 'phones is the paint and exterior of the body, where the "Denon" logo is/was was wearing away on mine, leading me to scratch the remaining of the logo off, also on the edges of the bodies the paint is gradually rubbing off. This leaves them with almost a tacky look and for this reason i shall only award this product a very respectable 4 stars.
xx
