The 1950s and '60s was a time of huge change for Ipswich. Many parts of the old town were demolished in the name of modernisation with new housing, office buildings and a new road network being built. The cherished trolley buses were taken out of service during this time, as were the great steam trains that used to transport locals to nearby seaside towns for days out and summer holidays. The music and dance scene was also developing at a fast pace; ballroom dancing gave way to the arrival of rock and roll in the early 60s, with hundreds of local teenagers gathering each weekend at the town's halls and studios to dance to records by bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. David Kindred brings to life the changing face of Ipswich in the 50s & 60s, in this book, using his own collection of outstanding vintage photography, as well as images from the archives of the "Evening Star" and those donated by local residents.
