Customer Reviews
Awful recorded sound levels
It was nice to hear the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem again. I had originally bought all their records on vinyl starting over forty years ago and then replaced those with tapes so I thought it was time to replace the tapes with CD's. But I was really disappointed with the sound levels on certain tracks. The worst example being the solo song, Eileen Aroon which was barely audible even with the volume cranked up in the car. The work of the weavers, wasn't much better either. When they are all singing together with a rousing chorus, the sound is great which makes it that much more of a crime for the spoilt tracks.
I have found this to be common on all of the album rehashes, it's as if the producers don't worry about the product and assume that we fans will accept anything put out. And due to the limited material available (and there are many, many tracks that appeared on vinyl that have never made it onto any CD, nor have they been made available for downloading) I suppose we have to be grateful for what is released.
To sum up: A disappointing rehash of the same old tracks with terrible sound levels.
clancy brothers review
Overall pretty good but I was disappointed with one or two tracks on CD 1 the sound quality wasnt good enough
Warning - Not The Boys at Their Peak
Have to agree with the others about the sound quality. Also, be aware that these tracks are not from the "vintage" CBS albums but are earlier recordings and the full blooded Clancy Brothers sound hadn't really evolved when they were made. Consequently it's all a bit lacklustre. If you want to hear what really made the band special, try the new release of the Carnegie Hall concert - only a couple of years on but a million miles ahead.
