'Would you like to be buried with my people?' will take you on a light-hearted walk down the memory lane of Irish wedding traditions. Lifting the veil on the past, this book will acquaint the modern bride and groom with their rich cultural heritage. From matchmaking to speed-dating, strawboys to gatecrashers and jaunting carts to limousines, the face of Irish weddings has changed dramatically over the centuries. Irish wedding traditions are here traced back to their roots and explored, as well as updated for the modern Irish bride and groom. Connecting the old with the new, both romance and marriage in olden-day Ireland are described alongside various traditions, proverbs, and the fun and frolics that accompanied the couple up the aisle.

About the Author
Kerstin Mierke and Bridgette Rowland both work as editors in Dublin. This is their first foray into life on the other side - as authors. They hope that the experience, with all its highs and lows, will help them bridge the age-old divide between writers and their publishers. Kerstin's upcoming nuptials have been a strong driving force behind this book whilst Bridgette has recently found herself surrounded by betrothed siblings who were her inspiration for putting pen to paper.
Customer Reviews
Lotsa fun!!
I received this book as an engagement present recently and absolutely loved it. It's packed full of lotsa wacky traditions - some of which I'd heard of and some of which I hadn't, whilst others (like throwing the boquet and the garter) are traced back to their origin. The book is a lot of fun whilst still being informative and it's made me want to incorporate some old traditions into my own wedding. This book isn't necessarily just for brides-to-be though and i'd recommend it to anyone looking for a quirky and amusing read. There's also a hilarious foreword by Ireland's unlucky in love comedian Maeve Higgins.
