Never push a Vacuum around again.
I purchased a Roomba with some scepticism and thought it would do a fair job, but in fact it does an excellent job of floor cleaning. It works best on low pile carpets and hard floors, but surprisingly can cope with mats as long as they are not too flimsy (they can get caught in the wheels) or have deep pile. Despite being a fraction of the cost of rivals, it does a better job of vacuuming than I do! The unit itself includes cliff sensors to check for stairs and navigates by means of bumping into objects (fairly gently!). Use is very straightforward, press 'Clean' and is vacuums the whole floor automatically and then beeps when complete. The unit is bagless, so you just empty the bin and charge the battery and its ready to go again. You do need to clean the brush rollers regularly but it is great to leave it to clean a room when you are doing something else. Accessories include docking station and virtual walls to keep it away from cables, other rooms etc. I would never go back to a 'manual' vacuum cleaner again. Lets hope iRobot make one for ironing next...

A bit like the washing machine, switch on and leave!
I got my iRobot Roomba XP Discovery from another source on 15th Oct 2007.
I have a flat with 4 rooms and hallway, my carpets are short pile with coconut hair mats to the front and rear doors also tiles in the kitchen.
Roomba copes with all these and so far, always docks with the charging station at the end of its daily duty, after about an hour cleaning.
I am really suprised by the effective cleaning this unit does, for a trial I did an aggresive vacuum of the whole flat (a whole day working) before I set the Roomba going, to my suprise the Roomba picked up more fine and large particles of dirt, the small dust box was not full but it had picked up more than I expected from my clean sweep. Each day Roomba cleans it has some dirt in its tray. Overall, I'm pleased with its efficiency, switch on and when you return home, empty the dirt tray and clean the filter, simple.

iRobot Roomba
I've recently bought the iRobot Roomba 2 silver. It's been brilliant, I was sceptical at first but decided to give it a try as I had a 30 day free trial and I was amazed at how thorough a job this little robot did. He's very easy to use, just switch him on and select whether you want him to clean one room in particular, in which case you just close the door and leave him to it or you can leave your doors open and select the max button and he'll work his way in and out of the differant rooms and he'll stop when he's finished. It's a brilliant idea for anyone who has a disability and finds vacuuming a real chore and he does a great job even along the edges as he has a brush which gets close to the skirting board. All he needs is his bin emptied and his brush cleaned regularly but this is very easy to do, apart from that put him on the charge and he's ready to go. I'm patiently waiting for his brother Scooba to come to the Uk as he washes the floor!
