A great guide to Skye
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this guide to Skye. It describes each area of the island in turn, covering the geography and the main tourist places of interest but in addition it provides fascinating information about the history of Skye and its people - the viking invasions, norse place names, the drovers roads (did you know that many Scots were hired to work on the cattle ranches in the USA because of their expertise in handling cattle droves, becoming the cowboys of the Wild West?), the clearances and emigrations, the history of the church on Skye, the clans (particularly the McLeods and their rivals the MacDonalds) and so on. A great guide for anyone planning a visit to Skye.
Pevensey Guide for the Isle of Skye
The Pevensey guides are an excellent series and this one for the Isle of Skye is no exception. Lots of information and good photographs. Was an invaluable help along with others in the series covering the Western Isles on our recent trip to Scotland.Skye (Pevensey Island Guides)
