Album Description
The Late Lounge presents Boudoir Beats Bedroom cool from jazz fm’s Late Lounge

The Late Lounge re-opens its doors in 2003 with the cool, sensuous sound of Boudoir Beats. As with all Late Lounge albums, Boudoir Beats features the type of stylish music heard on the critically acclaimed Late Lounge radio show (Monday to Fridays, 10pm-1am, jazz fm). With the right mix of contemporary grooves and classic downtempo, this is the finest selection of slowdown listening. True chill-out classics, acoustic and electronic masterpieces, jazz, bossa flavours and beautiful soul tracks make excellent bedfellows. Boudoir Beats’ CD1 highlights include the seminal 70s jazz-funk of Rotary Connection’s original "I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun", the incredible vocals of Petra Jean Phillipson on David Holmes’ Free Association psychedlic breakbeat funk cut, "(I Wish I Had A) Wooden Heart" (alas no longer to scheduled to be a single release) and the Groove Armada / Richie Havens collaboration, "Little By Little".

Two artistes whose work deserves supreme recognition are Shaun Escoffery and Lewis Taylor. Their tracks on BB truly reflect the depth and variety of talent of soulful British music. The first CD also features two exclusives. The first is from Brooklyn’s finest nu-soul vocalist, Alison Crockett (aka Diva Blue) with "Like Rain" from an as yet unreleased album project. Those good people at Grand Central Records provide the second: a track by Kate Rogers and Tony D entitled "The Rhyme".

CD2 begins with an Ibiza classic - William Orbit / Strange Cargo’s "The Story Of Light" - followed by Paul Hardcastle’s "Celestial Rhythm", which proves Paul’s pedigree as chill-out producer extraordinaire. We have some fun with a hip-hop beats infused workout of Sergio Mendes’ "For What It’s Worth". Natureboy’s "Lessons In Love" is perfect acoustic chill as is "So Low" by the underated and underexposed Custom Blue. A hard-to-find acoustic version of Tom & Joyce’s "Vai Minha Tristeza" and BahSamba’s, "Tired Little One" finish the album in a Latin/ bossa style.

With the sexy new digipak-style packaging and the ever-evolving, effortlessly cool sounds of the Late Lounge, Boudoir Beats is once more the perfect soundtrack to a late night… in.

Customer Reviews

Pleasantly different to the first two Late Lounge albums5
The title Boudoir Beats is very apt - this third release from the brilliant Late Lounge certainly has a more sensual edge. A few tracks have a late sixties/early seventies lounge feel to them, Reno's "When you're in love" and Max Sedgley's sleazy "Slowly" being examples. The decision to open the album with the totally underrated Rotary Connection's "Black Gold of the Sun" gets it off to a great start. Highlights for me are Groove Armada's "Little by little", Tiefschwarz's brilliantly cheesy-80's sounding mix of "Never", and Natureboy's moody, slightly Pink Floydesque "Lessons in Love." Jakatta's "The Other World" almost lifted me off my feet. The only disappointment is Skinny's irritating "Failure", which a friend asked me to skip when I played it her dinner party. One of the best things about the Late Lounge albums is the timing of the track order - everything is just so well put together, with no sudden jolts or changes in tempo. You can really feel the effort that has been made into the track selection. Well worth the purchase.

Leftfield Jazz Fm5
I was given this album as a gift recently, and can't stop playing the laid back selection. This is a taste of Rosie Kendricks impressive improved Late lounge show on Jazz FM, a more leftfield journey in to after hours grooves. Boudoir Beats is an assortment of downtempoed grooves ranging from jazz funk classic obscurity, Rotary Connection's Black Gold Of The Sun, to the exclusive blue eyed Brit Soul Brother Lewis Taylor's astounding When Will I Ever Learn, blended with contempory chill out sounds such as Tony D, Kosheen , Birdie and Natureboy. There's even a couple of the regular chillout faves that pop up on the more commercial chill out compilations, such as Talvin Singh and Groove Armada. I found Boudoir Beats an uplifting collection and a long way away from Jazz FM's regular smooth jazz genre ,and closer in content to a Hed Kandi chill out collection , a perfect wind down chill out of versatility merging ambient, soul, dance, indie latin and jazz. This is an underated gem that needs discovering for winding down over the hectic festive season and beyond.
