Customer Reviews
Excellent!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Young Samurai, The Way of the Sword. The story is somehow even pacier than the previous book and takes you on an amazing roller coaster ride. Just you begin to relax after Jack manages to get out of one harrowing situation, another turn of events throws you back to the edge of your seat. I couldn't put the book down!
The story is beautifully written in such a way that you can easily visualise the country and the people of Japan. I loved the references to Nijo castle and the nightingale floor; having visited the castle earlier this year it brought back many fond memories.
The characters really mature and grow in this book and there is a new, darker side to Akiko which has left me intrigued. I can't wait to read the next instalment to find out what happens!
This book is full of important values such as friendship, loyalty, integrity and perseverance against adversity and Jack's skills are really put to the test. There are many valuable lessons for us all to learn from Jack and his experiences. This is considerably more than a marshal arts story and will appeal to boys and girls alike. My daughter is 11 years old and is totally hooked!
I can thoroughly recommend this book.
Bradford gets better and better!
Chris Bradford has done it again! Even better! In book two of the Young Samurai series, Jack Fletcher struggles to become a samurai warrior in medieval Japan, and, if that was not enough, to avenge his father's murder and get home to rescue his sister. AND to do it all with bushido - true samurai spirit. Here Jack battles to join the Circle of Three who will learn the fighting technique known as the Two Heavens. He will need this to defeat the seemingly invincible ninja Dragon Eye. Jack has many friends and enemies - but which are which? There is an exciting fight on every other page, but the strength of the Young Samurai series is in its believable characters and their thoughts and emotions. Violence is ritualised and not glorified. Good is pitted against evil, but must not use its methods. To understand, you must read the book!
enjoy a good read , not an age bracket
most adults would see these books as for children , along with harry potter and and the rangers apprentice series . dont be fooled by this, these books have a great depth of knowledge about 16th century japan and it's cults and honor .
also not forgetting that most fantasy is a way to escape from the modern life . i as much as anyone enjoy a good story and would not put age in the way , so if like me you like the unlikely hero to the brash one ,pick these up and enjoy a damn good read .
