From the same 'dream team' that created The Fender Stratocaster Chronicles (Vintage Guitar magazine's 2004 Book of the Year) comes this extensive book covering the other side of Fender's legacy, the instrument amplifier. Revered as much as one's guitar, the Fender amplifier gets its due in this full-color, richly illustrated book. Features over 400 images, including legendary guitarists such as Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Neil Young, Pete Townshend, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Muddy Waters, Robbie Robertson and Dick Dale, and two CDs featuring over 120 tracks that make terms and topics come alive.

Customer Reviews
Fender Amp Heaven!
I also own the Stratocaster 50th anniversary tome by Tom Wheeler so I had a feeling this would be good. However, it is much more than good, it is superb. It fact, it is rated so highly that Fender USA have now renamed the reissue amp section of their website The Soul Of Tone with a reference to the book shown alongside the classic models they sell.
If you play guitar and have ever wonderered why virtually every recorded guitar sounds the way it does, this gives you the history of how Leo Fender invented the classics and then the likes of Marshall, Mesa Boogie and others started with Leo's designs and modified them to their own requirements.
You also get two CD's of sound-bites of classic amps matched with Tele's, Strat's and Lesters so if you've ever wonderered how a Tele through a blackface Vibrolux sounds, and how different it is to a Tele through a blackface Deluxe Reverb, then it's all here.
An absolutely stunning book for any guitar player!
Bound to become a standard reference text
Not a lot I can add to the previous glowing reviews. It is an excellent book, with lots of detail. I,personally, would have liked even more detail and schematics and photos of the cream tolex series amps, but this is a minor critiscism really. Thoroughly recommended.
Soul Of Tone revealed!!
Excellent book detailing the development of Fender amps, well put together with plenty of pics, tales and historic stuff. Will be a useful refernce for years to come as well as a fascinating read.
