Its okay...2
Like most of its competitors, this book does a certain job very well, but falls down whenever it trys to become something more. If you are looking for a simple A to Z of most things in this week's Kerrang then, yeah, you'll spend far worse £12 - if, however, you want a truly comprehensive guide to metal, if you have more than the most basic of knowledge of the genre, or if you find the idea of the Darkness being lumped in with your heroes, then avoid this like the plague. I particularly dislike about the review copy I've been lent, the fact that it is so predictably presented - some imagination would have been really useful!

worth buying5
It really could be too easy to be critical over this book. It is what is: 'The Rough Guide to Heavy Metal'. It is in my humble opinion a well researched guide, nicely presented, great fun and nostalgic.

A rocking great read ! ! !5
