The term 'sports driving' is relatively new in the field of equestrian sports. This book demystifies the 'myths' of competitive carriage driving. It contains advice on acquiring the right pony and equipment, schooling to acheive results and how to turn out yourself and your pony at National Championship. The author details all three phases of competition with tips on achieving flow and bend in dressage, speed in the marathon and accuracy in cones. Sports Driving gives a complete picture of the sport from starting flags to finish.

Be inspired to go carriage driving!
This book is a must-have for every carriage driving enthusiast! It's perceptively written, contains lots of sound advice and is a much-needed update on the subject for anyone who wants to drive a horse or pony competitively in horse driving trials. Yes, its foreword is by HRH the Duke of Edinburgh but at last this sport is becoming much more inclusive with juniors, "oldies" up to those in their 70s as well as plenty of us somewhere in the middle all taking part on an equal footing, especially now that indoor driving in the winter makes competing accessible to all - as Amanda's photos frequently show. There are some dashing disabled drivers who compete against the able-bodied, too. If you want to know more about doing carriage driving well, this book is as good for the beginner as it is for the aspiring competitor. Amanda's enthusiasm and knowledge shines through the text. It's very readable and good to dip into. There are useful exercises for horse and driver as well as sound advice on harness, training and carriages and competing with checklists and advice at all levels for the would-be competitor and groom. Every person interested in carriage driving well should have a copy of this book on their shelf!
Simple AND effective!!
Finnally an answer to the question 'how do i stop my pony going in a straight line on the wrong bend'!!! Seriously though this book has a lot about it, both for beginners and those who are more experienced. The pictures are fantastic and combined with the text this book is more than enough to inspire you all the way out of your armchair and onto your carriage to try out some of the fabulous advice!!!
