An overlooked classic.
Jim wakes up one morning to see a tall plant growing outside his window. He climbs up and reaches the top where he finds a huge house. When he goes to the house, the door is opened by a very, very old giant, who was a small boy when Jack climbed the beanstalk. Jim supplies the giant with glasses, false teeth and a flaming red wig over the course of the story, all with a large gold coin given to him by the giant. There is a lovely ending and my three year old loves it. Buy it and read it, you will be enchanted.
This book is brilliant.
I don't know why this book isn't more popular. My kids love it. It is a clever rewrite of the well-known tale which draws well on the original while allowing you to enjoy the story in its own right.
Primary 1 teacher
This book is being used along with a series of other books about giants and a finger puppet set in a class topic. It is not the children's favourite but they do like and enjoy it and it certainly has its place in the topic. It is very easy to read and the storyline is fun for children at this level.
