Customer Reviews
Brilliant adaption of the Boardgame. But more teams please.
I have bought this game already by the end of july over amazon.de and I am truly happy with this game. It had a lot of bugs in the beginning and there are still some stupid connection issues but once you get the game started it is a blast. Now after already 7 patches most of the functions and skills work properly. I hope they fix the opening ports problem soon. I only play the classic mode which is 1:1 identical to the rules of the original boardgame. The real-time mode is supposed to be a mess so I have never bothered trying it out for myself.
In order to be able to play this game you have to read the living rulebook which can be easily found on the internet. Otherwise if you haven't played the original you will have a pretty rough start. The single player mode is only for practicing. The AI is pretty lame, so there is no real challenge there whatsoever. But the true genius lies in the multiplayer leagues. You can either play single matches in the public league or start or join a private league. Private leagues are the best part in this game. You can create your own league with costum rules and start competing with your friends.
The graphics are quite nice for a "low-medium" budget game like this. The sound effects and sport commentators are great but unfortunately this game is completely lacking any music, but you can just switch on your winamp.
This game is a truely great adaptation of the original with all its brilliant and frustrating moments( the dices can really drive you mad). The only thing bothering me right now is the small amount of teams. The board game offers almost 20 here you get only 8. I miss my vampires, high elves, dark elves, the undead and so on. But I am sure there will be some updates coming.
So if you are in for a great strategic sport chess game I highly recommened it. A victory tastes delicious if it comes with a gallon of elf blood :-)But if you are looking for a sports game, don`t bother with this one.
Blood Bowl
The game itself isnt bad. Blitz (realtime) is ok but like 99% of people i brought this game for the turn based multiplayer.
Turn based has its problems, as around half the skills do not work as intended.
The main problem however is the connecting to online multiplayer, you have to mess around with ports and firewall just to stand a chance of getting the game to work and when you do some of the time you get the port error message. If you can finally get a game there is no drawback to your opponent disconnecting, you get nothing for the game and he loses nothing its like the game never happened.
If you can look past all of its faults though and hope that cyanide do finally get round to fixing it ( there past records in these matters are not great ) then the game isnt bad.
Great fun online or single player
I must say I have had no problems at all with the game or with online connection. This may be due to the patches that have been released and which update the game when you install it.
The "Classic" mode does a wonderful job of recreating the original board game. In the single player game you can either play a one off game using one of the many ready made teams, or create your own team and set out to win trophies or leagues. The game is wonderfully balanced as it has grown over several editions since it was first released.
As a multiplayer game you can either play in "hot seat" mode with two players taking turns on the same machine, play over a LAN or compete in the online leagues. The league rules of the original game have been well implimented and allow you to play as often as you like.
Overall this is a perfect statagy game.
