Very clear demonstration of the breaststroke from the five - time Olympic Gold Medalist Tom Jager
I am an amateur swimmer who swims 3 times a week for fitness. I do not participate in any races and have never taken swimming lessons except for a few life saving lessons when I was in high school many years ago. Although I am a better swimmer than most non - competitive swimmers of my age ( 50 ) I was wondering whether my styles were correct or not. First I watched the free style DVD by Tom Jager and found it very helpful in correcting my style so I also purchased his other style DVD's. This one that teaches the breaststroke also has very clear explanations and demonstrations with a very high picture and sound quality.
He uses a class of young boys and girls in a swimming pool to demonstrate the techniques after he has personally demonstrated them in the pool. He also talks about and demonstrates the most common mistakes made by swimmers in the breast stroke and how to avoid them. I just finished watching this DVD a few minutes ago and found many mistakes in my breaststroke technique and will start correcting them this week. I appreciate that he also gets into the pool and demonstrates the techniques himself too. In another DVD made by someone else the instructor talking on the DVD did not even get into the pool and made other swimmers demonstrate while he talked. He was also overweight which did not seem very convincing.
I believe this DVD is very good for anyone wanting to learn or improve his / her breaststroke technique and also for swimming teachers to see how a very good swimming teacher teaches. Tom Jager is also a very good speaker in teaching swimming. There are many swimming instructors who maybe good swimmers themselves but can not teach effectively because they are such bad speakers and lack communication skills. I recommend that you also purchase Tom Jager's Freestyle DVD which I also found very helpful and for which I wrote a separate five star review. I am not yet commenting on his other swimming style DVD's because I have not yet watched them.
