Synopsis
LIFE ON MARS is a throwback to the crime-fighting style of the 1970s, drawing its inspiration from such TV series as THE SWEENEY and THE PROFESSIONALS. As was characteristic of classic 60s fantasy, the creators have taken some risks with the show’s politically incorrect references, daring to be slightly subversive. While its creators are quick to brush off comparisons to fellow time-travelling TV series QUANTUM LEAP, there are obvious thematic similarities, however unconscious. John Simm (HUMAN TRAFFIC) ably stars as Sam Tyler, the fish-out-of-water detective who must piece together the mysteries of his own situation, while solving the crime du jour. The show takes its title from David Bowie’s haunting theme song.

life on mars
If you were around in the seventies and enjoying it then you love this. The series really captures the essence of the time. Not many computers, no e.mails, no mobile phones, how on earth did we communicate. Great fashion and dodgy cars.
Each episode leaves you wanting more. The direction and actors are both great and the blu-ray quality is stunning
enjoy
Only let down at the end.
All in all, this was a great little series. 99 percent compulsive viewing only let down by the conclusion. I won't spoil it for those who still haven't seen it, but the ending could've been either a bit more clever or ambiguous - allowing the audience to rage in debate for years on end and make up it's own mind. However, don't be put off... At first I thought it didn't quite gel after I originally watched the first episode on TV. But thank God for Blu-ray where I finally gave it a second chance and got to thoroughly enjoy the entire series. Innovation and originality is rare these days, so if you've only skirted on the sidelines until now, then go on - take the plunge and give it a good proper airing on blu-ray.
Great TV and nostalgia
This has to be one of the best TV programmes ever made and is well worth buying purely for this reason alone, as an added bonus if you're aged over 50 you come away from watching this feeling nostalgic as hell, well worth the money spent 10/10
