Not big, but it does the job....
I have a Sony DCR-HC14E Digital Camcorder and wanted a case. I checked the Sony website, however they don't recommend the LCS-HCB for the DCRHC14E, only for DCRHC16, DCRHC18, DCRHC20, DCRHC30, DCRHC40. They recommend a bag costing twice as much (what you save buying the entry level camcorder, you lose on the case - nice one Sony).
I gave it a try anyway and it's a snug fit, but hey, it fits. The case is 24.5cm high, 12cm wide and 8cm deep (roughly - just for your benefit) and it comes in a soft grey material. It has no internal compartments, however it has an external compartment that could hold say, an after eight mint (possibly two). It also has a shoulder strap that can be adjusted and a belt loop so you can attach it to your er, belt.
If you are looking for a case that will hold your camcorder, spare batteries and cassettes, then is NOT the case for you. If you want a small compact case to keep your camcorder warm and dry, try this and you shouldn't be disappointed.
Usual Sony quality - nice case, shame about drab colour
I just got this case for my DCR-HC40. It's actually a lot better than the photo suggests (!), so here's the run-down:
Despite being described as a soft case, the front and rear panels are actually stiffened and slightly padded to give some protection. The side panels enjoy thicker padding. Overall, a nice protective case without blowing the bank.
For those of you with the huge NP-FP90 battery, this will not fit inside the case - it only takes the standard NP-FP50 or the slightly bigger NP-FP70.
Belt loop is much sturdier than the same arrangement on the DSC-V1's camera case (thankfully !), and the shoulder strap in nicely adjustable if lacking in crucial shoulder padding. This may be an issue after a day's hard sightseeing !
Stilll, as I always say in these reviews, it's the usual Sony quality, so don't fret - it's a worthwhile and inexpensive purchase to keep your HC40 well looked after ....
Sony LCS-HCB
Great looking case, I managed to fit my DCR-TRV14E camcorder in it well, even though Sony says it won't. Make sure you have noticed the pink trim on the zip as I didn't until I opened the box. It didn't bother me but it might to someone else. Also if you're buying it to utilise the front pocket, don't bother, as it is useless for anything except your cleaning cloth. Overall, an excellent case if you just want somewhere to store your camera and nothing else, but if your looking for something a bit bigger, consider this as a secondary case, as I did.
