Essential reading for any Karetaka4
This excellent book continues on from M.Nakayama's previous book in the Best Karate series in much the same, exceedingly thorough vein. I have personally gained a lot from it as it builds on the simple techniques outlined in Kumite 1 (and known to most Karate students) and couples them together in a way that makes them both easy to understand and easy to replicate. The highly detailed pictures and written descriptions make the combinations and counter attacks in the book spring to life.
A must for any Karetaka, especially those wishing to take part in competitions and looking fro that extra edge.

The true heart of kumite5
The art of kumite is exmined in great detail in this, the 4th of Nakayama's legendary best karate series.

Taking his normal approach (a blend of very traditional karate with an almost scientific analysis), Nakayama introduces kumite with example fights and some of the best names in Karate history.

His stance on sports karate being unchanged, he addresses how the skills learned in kumite (timing, awareness, "reading" your opponent) can be useful in real conflicts.

A knowledge of karate basics is essential before kumite is begun (in my opinion) and I would reccomend this book to shotokan green belts (6th kyu) and above. Anyone of a lesser rank should consider Best Karate Kumite 1, the predeccesor.

To gain the knowledge of fundamental karate, Best Karate Comprehensive (the first volume in the series) should be ordered. This is the bible of the Shotokan karate world: basic techniques, stances, training methods, doctrine, all examined in meticulous detail by one of the best Karateka (karate people) of all time.
