DVD Description
Jimmy Carr is one of the biggest faces in comedy. Literally--he has one of the biggest faces. Now for the first time on DVD, the hugely successful "Jimmy Carr Live" and "Jimmy Carr Stand Up" are available together in the Jimmy Carr - Live Collection box set. With his unique brand of perfectly timed one-liners, along with a deadpan delivery for which he has become so well known, Jimmy has risen to become one of the most original and distinctive stars of British comedy. Jimmy plays to over 200,000 fans every year around Britain, so watch him on this DVD box set if you'd like to see what all the fuss is about. As Jimmy himself explains: "This isn't a show for the easily offended, it's not even a show for people who are quite difficult to offend. Essentially, this is a show for people without a moral compass."

Customer Reviews
An excellent comedic mind
Jimmy Carr has a excellent comedy mind, and his retention for one-line jokes is staggering. His subject matter ranges across the whole spectrum, but a significant majority can safely be categorised as "bad taste". The bar is set through his use of the c-word several times in the opening 5 minutes of one of his shows covered in this boxset. Despite that, it doesn't turn into a swear-fest. He probably mentions c- or f-words less than 10 times in total, so that shouldn't put anyone off.
I watch stand up comedy with an analytical mind - I'm intrigued by how someone can do that, how they can remember everything and how they guage their delivery. It's like a work of art, and with some stand-ups, I'm so busy watching what they do, how they say different words, etc, that I don't actually find their jokes very funny. Jimmy Carr is different. I simply can't help but laugh.
He is a master of the unexpected punchline. You simply can't predict what's coming next, and it generates a laugh every time, through sheer surprise if nothing else.
There have been criticisms levelled at Carr through his use of repeated jokes on these 2 different shows. That is true - he does repeat some jokes. However, the total of repeated jokes is less than 5 and it doesn't detract from the remaining hour and a half of the show in the slightest. I've personally got no problem with several jokes being re-told, especially as Carr manages to still make them fresh and told in a slightly different way, or to a different audience member, etc. It will still make you laugh, and you'll still try and remember them yourself to tell your friends the next day.
The extras on the 2 DVD discs were surprisingly good as well. There's footage of Carr's appearance on the Royal Variety show, which really highlighted his confidence in his own joke-telling skill. At the beginning of the Variety show, he doesn't get huge laughs. Slowly, after a few minutes, he has them laughing loudly at everything - it's this mastery of a crowd, judge when the time is right to tell a certain joke, and delivery of an unexpected, and occasionally provoking punchline that makes Jimmy Carr's stand up shows stand above everyone else's.
Buy this, watch this, delight in his artwork, and then try and remember the jokes!
A VERY FUNNY MAN
I first saw him on Distraction, then on a couple of 100 Greatest programmes, and before this was released there was The Friday Night Project. Now he is one of my most favourite comedians, I even saw him live on stage myself for his second live tour. Anyway, this is the first tour from Jimmy Carr, and this live recorded show is one of the most simple and yet hilarious things ever made. Obviously people may be offended by his use of swearing, especially the "c word", but he is still bloody funny. He does jokes about his girlfriend, newspaper ads, his personal life, being famous and many other things that we probably didn't know could be that funny. Jimmy Carr was number 12 on 100 Greatest Stand-Ups. Very good!
This was pretty much funnier than the first DVD, Jimmy Carr Live. It had more daring jokes, it had a good audience, and better than that, I saw one of these shows while he was on tour. Seeing him live was just fantastic, and one of the best jokes was a guy shouting out "Duckman", and Carr asks why he is called that, the guys says "long story", and it turns out his name is Lee Drake! Anyway, this DVD of one of his shows performed during the tour is just brilliant. Also, if you have the DVD of it you get the special features of him being top of the "star in a reasonably priced car" track list; on Top Gear, and his own Comedy Idol (like X Factor, but for comedians). Jimmy Carr was number 12 on 100 Greatest Stand-Ups. Very good!
Priorities
The main buff of my review is something which people hotly debate about comics. To me, I could only enjoy one of these DVD's, as there is literally about 50% cross-over of jokes. Even the extras of the second one, features interviews etc. where he still uses exactly the same jokes!!!!
I can't deny though individually they are very funny, however he has a very specific sense of humour which isn't for everyone, and I have to admit at times as much as I like him, he does produce some stinkers, partiuclarly in his one-liners (though these are few and far between, but in my opinion noticeable)
To sum up- watch the two DVD's with a big time difference!
