From the Inside Flap
Conflict is a part of our everyday human behavior that stems from a basic fight?or?flight instinct. Too often, however, we believe that conflict is something that must be avoided at all costs; this tendency to suppress conflict can spark a cascade of negative emotions that eventually derail managers, leaders, and organizations.

George Kohlrieser—an international leadership professor, consultant, and veteran hostage negotiator—explains that it is only by openly facing conflict that we can truly progress through the most difficult business challenges. In this provocative book, he reveals how the proven techniques and psychological insights used in hostage negotiation can be applied successfully to any personal or business relationship. Step by step, he outlines?the seven key?factors that anyone can use to remove the blocks that stand in the way of resolving tough problems, and he shows how business leaders in particular can develop and access the skills they need to create trust and a positive mind–set in their companies.

Hostage at the table5
Here is an outstanding book which unfolds deep and true components on how to move on with life into a powerful and free position. You will definitely benefit from this reading and by applying your learning from where you are at now, it will both change your life and impact directly and positively the people around you.
I have experienced being a hostage in a management position and have learnt some key principles explained in this book - yes these are real life examples and yes it happens every day to us all. Being aware of it is already half the way - Try it out for yourself.

Why you shouldn't let yourself be held hostage at work4
If a dangerous criminal was demanding a one-way ticket to Venezuela as he threatened to blow your brains out, the person you would most want to see coming onto the scene is author George Kohlrieser. A psychologist and veteran hostage negotiator who has diffused explosive situations around the globe, Kohlrieser now applies his knowledge, motivational insights and techniques to the business world. He contends that conflict resolution is not difficult if you understand how human self-esteem operates. The basic negotiating principles he presents may have been noted in other psychology and business management texts, but Kohlrieser's credibility and unique approach give his ideas an added kick. For example, he uses real-life hostage negotiations to illustrate his points. We think you'll find that this whole package is definitely a nonnegotiable demand.

Inspiring and Engaging5
Full of sound psychology elegantly applied to leadership challenges, this book uses the engaging narrative of the hostage scenario as a metaphor for understanding personal entrapment and freedom in difficult situations. The core psychological concepts of attachment, bonding and grief are well articulated. These ideas are consistently applied to a wide range personal and leadership situations through many well told and often moving stories.

Heartily recommended.
