Amazon.co.uk Review
Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the script, but Bill Murray gets all the best lines and moments in this 1984 comedy directed by Ivan Reitman (Meatballs). The three comics, plus Ernie Hudson, play the New York City-based team that provides supernatural pest control, and Sigourney Weaver is the love interest possessed by an ancient demon. Reitman and company are full of original ideas about hobgoblins--who knew they could "slime" people with green plasma goo?--but hovering above the plot is Murray's patented ironic view of all the action. Still a lot of fun, and an obvious model for sci-fi comedies such as Men in Black. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

DVD Description
When Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and his Columbia University colleagues (Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson) are kicked out of their prestigious academic posts, they start a private practice as professional ghost-catchers. Although things do not start auspiciously for the three parascientists, their television advertisements finally pay off when beautiful Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) contracts them. It seems her apartment has become the entryway for ghastly ghosts and goofy ghouls hellbent on terrorising New York City. Soon they're not just going to her rescue, but trying to rid the whole city of the slimy creatures. Ghostbusters hit US screens in June of 1984 and went on to become one of the most successful comedy films of all time, spawning a sequel and a popular animated series.

Superb DVD Rendition - Really worthwhile extra features5
In terms of quality and content, this is the best DVD I have tried. Someone has really put some thought and care into creating this DVD version of Ghostbusters; the film itself is beautifully rendered - the picture is pinsharp, and the Dolby sound superb, but the it's the extra features which really take the eye. So often this is an area to which little or no attention is paid when a DVD version is made, with a crude menu giving access to a theatrical trailer and a couple of unseen scenes. However, this DVD has a carefully crafted look, starting from the opening menu with a 3D rendition of the fateful building beside Central Park and the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man trundling along the street in the background. Menu items feature as part of the buildings, and when selected a smooth 3D zoom takes you to the appropriate place. Items included are Spook Central - theatrical and TV trailers, unused footage plus production stills, Commentary - with Ivan Reitman & Harold Ramis' 1999 reminiscences in audio and subtitle, Scene Selector - for chapter by chapter entry points to the film, and of course Play Movie. The DVD is billed as the 15th Anniversary Edition, and it feels just that. For anyone wanting to acquire a personal library edition of a much-loved classic, look no further.

If only all films could be like this5
Never has a film had so much entertainment packed into one box! This dvd is a must for the budding collector, it has the best features ive seen. The film itself needs no introduction. These so called blockbusters of today are nothing on this classic. The dialogue of Ghostbusters can never be matched, Akroyd and Ramis proving their talents behind the camera as well as in front. I personally rate Bill Murray as the best dead-pan comedy actor there has ever been. His delivery is second to none "yes its true, this man has no ****" If anyone is even doubting buying this dvd, then stop immediately and get it!!

Who you gonna call?5
Ghostbusters is one of the funniest and best films of the 1980's, with a funny script and a great cast giving fantastic comic performances. Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis it tells the story of a group of New York scientists who specialise in parapsychology and the supernatural. When Dr. Peter Venkman (Murray), Dr. Ray Stantz (Aykroyd) and Dr. Egon Spengler (Ramis) lose their funding and are thrown out of their university because of their spurious "science", they decide to go it alone and use their research to become private ghost catchers. However, when their first client Dana (Weaver) complains of her refrigerator being haunted, Venkman investigates but is more interested in securing a date than capturing ghosts. Despite this, the Ghostbusters fame and popularity rockets, but their new found celebrity soon comes unstuck when an over zealous environmental agent orders the ghost confinement unit to be shutdown, unleashing the captured ghosts and helping to bring about Armageddon.

Although the special effects and the dodgy Eighties soundtrack have not aged particularly well, the film is still as funny now as it was in 1984. This is mainly due to Aykroyd and Ramis's excellent script and Bill Murray's brilliantly dry performance: "No human being could stack books like this." The DVD has the usual extras; making of featurettes and interviews, deleted scenes, trailers and an excellent video commentary from the director and one half of the writing team, Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis. In conclusion, Ghostbusters is a great film and this DVD is a must buy.
