Synopsis
This is the first book of its kind to explain JuJitsu in such detail. Its breadth and depth covers all ancillary parts connected to the study, practice and coaching of JuJitsu, from the principles involved to the biomechanics and physics. The book is well illustrated, with over 100 diagrams, graphs, figures and photographs, many of which are full colour, and helpful coaching tips. It's aimed at those who wish to study or coach the art, and is an excellent resource for those who practice by de-mystifying the coaching and training processes and explaining how we learn. It details the establishment of JuJitsu within the UK, the development of JuJitsu globally, and the philosophical aspects of JuJitsu. It also covers such highly topical and controversial issues as drugs in sport and emergency care in a superlative way, so that any reader will be able to make an informed view on either issue. The author describes the common injuries sustained in JuJitsu and deliberates on their cause, signs, symptoms and treatment, providing the reader with an invaluable resource into this area. The author brings a new dimension to the coaching process by combining sports science with the traditional martial arts values and techniques of JuJitsu, utilising the sciences to explain techniques and theories that have pervaded and been passed down through the years. This is a remarkable subtle blend of the physical, psychological and spiritual which brings the relevance of traditional JuJitsu into the 21st century. This is a must-have book for all serious students, coaches and masters of martial arts.

Avoid At All Cost...1
Definately the worst martial arts book in my collection.Sparse and very poor illustrations ,with lots and lots of waffle about anything other than the actual subject matter "Jujitsu".
A completely useless waste of ....Money ,Paper ,Time and book shelf space ..if I could get my money back I would...

This is the new BIBLE for martial artists.5
It is rare in martial arts books to find a text that revolutionizes the world of martial arts. Such books as ¡®The book the five rings¡¯ (Musuashi) and ¡®The tao of Jeet Kune Do¡¯ (Lee) have both sold millions of copies world wide because they opened up both philosophical and technical aspects of the arts that are normally kept secret in the few top dojos around the world.

"The Essentials for the Study, Coaching and Practice of Ju Jitsu"
is set at this level. It is the first serious ground breaking text published on the art of Ju Jitsu since WW2.

One such renowned Dojo, House of the Samurai, (Dundee, Scotland) is home to perhaps one of the most respected and talented Ju Jitsu coaches of the 21st century.

Robert Ross is not a face you will see in the movies or in sports martial competitions. Ross is not interested in promoting the competitive side of martial arts, preferring instead to concentrate on the preservation and development of the arts of Ju Jitsu and their application in combat, a tradition which has been mostly lost in the post Kano era of Japanese Martial Arts.

This is the first Ju Jitsu book to cover advanced aspects of Ju Jitsu, and also modern coaching methods incorporated into the teaching of Ju Jitsu.

Not only will this book teach you how biomechanics can be applied to improving martial technique, the coaching section of the book could be applied to almost any sport, although it is tailored specifically to Ju Jitsu.

Robert Ross now in his mid forties has been involved in Martial arts since the age of nine. Starting in Judo, Robert has trained to a high level in Aikido, Judo, Aiki Jitsu, and Hontai Roshin Ryu Ju Jitsu. Robert has also been a prolific student of Iaido, learning as many as 4 different schools of Iai and Kobudo comprising of Kyudo, Yarijutsu, Hojojutsu, Taihojutsu, Hanbo, Bo, Tanto, etc.

Ross is a full time instructor of Ju Jitsu and also runs a clinic for treating sports injuries. His passion in martial arts has diversified in congruence with his other professional life as a Sports Physiotherapist.

Ross has applied his knowledge in the Biomechanics of the Human body to modify Ju Jitsu technique to improve its efficiency. This is the first such application of biomechanics to Ju Jitsu, putting this book at the edge of its field.

He has spent over 20 years developing models of coaching for Ju Jitsu, seeking to apply 'state of the art' methods which have been pioneered for the development of Olympic sport, into the coaching of Ju Jitsu.

Robert Ross is the National technical director to the Scottish Ju Jitsu Association, a position he has held since its inception 25 years ago. This book details his developments in Ju Jitsu over that period, and will be a template for Ju Jitsu Associations around the world.

In recognition of Ross's achievements in Ju Jitsu and Sports Physiotherapy, he was inducted into ¡®The World Martial Arts Hall Of Fame¡¯ and ¡®The World Sports Physiotherapy Hall Of Fame¡¯ (Ohio) and the The 'Karate Voice Cosmopolitan Florida Hall of Fame'.

This book comes on top of 6 Ju Jitsu instruction videos (White to Green belt, Blue to Brown Belt, Black Belt, Second Dan, Third Dan and Embu competition forms) which are only available to Ross¡¯s students.
