I love great big...coconuts...
A mixed bag of Carry On films from 1969 to 1971. Despite it being possibly the most well-known film in the series, Carry On Camping is actually one of the weaker efforts from this period, a plotless series of vignettes based around the goings-on at a grotty campsite. None of the regulars are really firing on all cylinders in this one, with the fifty-odd year-old Sidney James coming across as especially seedy in his efforts to get his `girlfriend' Joan Sims away for a mucky week in the country. Carry On Again Doctor is a sequel of sorts to 1967's Carry On Doctor and sees Jim Dale's disgraced GP exiled to an exotic island where he discovers a miracle cure for obesity. Carry On Up The Jungle is a cut-price (and cut-rate) adventure movie spoof that features Frankie Howerd's second, and final, Carry On appearance, as an ornithology professor who stumbles on a jungle tribe made up entirely of gorgeous women. The only real gem in this collection is Carry On Henry, featuring James as Henry VIII; it's another very broad and vulgar film, but it has a very funny script and most of the regular team on top form, not to mention that, like all the best period Carry On films, the production values are largely impressive.
There are better Carry On films than the four featured here, but there are far worse too; this selection will make comfortable viewing on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
