A Genealogical must-have
This book has been on my shelves for nearly 40 years and it is the one I most often return to. Any genealogist or family historian who wants to know what records their ancestor may have left behind will discover a wealth of information and excellent examples of many parish records that are so neglected by many. A clear explanation of all the official positions in the parish hierarchy, how they were elected and their duties, gives an insight into the records they created and which you may find. Even parish registers are considered in minute detail showing how various Acts affected their appearance and content. Highly recommended.
The best family history book
Few if any other family history books have come anywhere near to Tate's book either in accuracy, completeness or sheer humanity. The many examples taken from a variety of parish registers and documents reveal a comprehensive knowledge as well as an impish sense of humour.
The Parish Chest
I purchased this book for a friend. The reason - it invaluable when researching your family history. It is a book that should be in all researchers libraries.
