Spaghetti Making
This item does make very good spaghetti with a round cross-section rather than the rectangular one that the cutters that come with the SP150 (Imperia Italian Double Cutter Pasta Machine SP150) makes. However, you need to make the dough as stiff as you can - if it's slightly sticky or too elastic, the strands stick together. It took some trial & error with the recipe & a bit of practice with rolling out a stiff dough but I am now making great spaghetti. By the way, you need to roll out the dough to No. 3 on your SP150 (any thinner and you won't fill the grooves in the cutter).
Does what it's supposed to do
All the Imperia stuff is fantastic, in my view. I have to confess that we tend to make just the straightforward lasagne sheets or make ravioli using the Imperia trays because hanging up spaghetti or one of the other stringy pastas is a pain. Having said that, if you want to make proper spaghetti, this is the item to do it with. Your Imperia machine comes with an attachment but that won't cut real spaghetti because it is straight cut. With this attachment you get the proper tubular shape.
Yummy pasta!
Lots and lots of yummy pasta and in not a great deal of time, same as with the ravioli attachment. I am not sure if it save money as such-i have not really tried to see that i am sorry to say, but as with all homemade things it goes longer:you can freeze the pasta dough for up to a month,if you can make sure that the pasta dries fully you can keep it in an air tight container for a few weeks, away from light etc.so i suppose in the long run it saves a few pennies and you can@t beat the flavour and the fresh ingredients
