Game of the Year 1995 and US Board Game of Year 1996
Winner of "Spiel des Jahres"

Manufacturer's Description
Players are recent immigrants to the newly populated island of Catan. Expand your colony through the building of settlements, roads and villages by harvesting commodities from the land around you. Trade sheep, lumber, bricks and some grain for a settlement, bricks and wood for a road, or try to complete other combinations for more advanced buildings, services and specials. Trade with other players, or at local seaports to get resources you might lack. The first player to achieve ten points from a combination of roads, settlements, and special cards wins. Careful trade and clever building are your keys to success. Plenty of fast-paced player interaction is guaranteed. Win or lose, adventure always awaits in Catan!

Over 11 million copies of Klaus Teuber’s acclaimed Catan series of board games have been sold world-wide since the its debut in 1995. It has been voted games of the year in Germany, America and a host of other countries. The basic Settlers of Catan game can be expanded to bring extra elements into play. Rules revised and now standardised. Although the basic rules are simple, the game is rich with strategic possibilities and no two games are ever the same.

Our Favourite Game!5
I purchased my copy of "Settlers" about 5 years ago; it has proved to be a brilliant acquisition, as everyone from my Adult friends to my 8 yr old children have enthused about the game. Games typically take about an hour to play (no marathon Monopoly-style sessions) and we have never had anyone storm away from the table in tears (like other board games). The games rules are comprehended within 10 minutes of play, but the strategy may take months to master. There is a need for cooperation and trading of resources, as well as judicious use of the Robber (a movable blight on resources); if one plays too aggressively, trading options are reduced, so a pragmatic diplomacy is encouraged. Of all the many board games I have bought, this is the one that has seen the most use and remains evergreen in our affections. After 5 years of steady use, the pieces are still good and the game is wearing well. Well done, Mr Teuber! Your game is a masterpiece!

Fantastic Game !!5
This is the best game i have ever come across. Easy to learn but requires lots of strategic thinking, everyone i have played with has been captivated by it...from age 9 to 64 ! Gets you thinking and planning right from the set up, and the ever changing layout of the board was such a stroke of genius and makes each game different and unpredictable. Although you can only play with 3/4 players (unless you buy the extension pack) we have also found it a good game to play in teams of 2 as well as there is always plenty of planning and scheming that can be enjoyed with your partner.I love the fact that everyone is engaged pretty much all the time, no boring waits in this game for your turn to come. My only small complaint is that it is easy to knock the tiles and make the board a bit wonky.....manufacturers this should be easy to resolve, come on....make it just perfect.

Settlers of Catan- a novices view4
I have played this game in the US where it is available in several forms, but the basic Settlers game is compiled of a variable board set up with hexagonal tiles. It has a number of rules to learn, but once these are mastered, the game is easy to play. The object of the game is to develop settlements, roads and cities until one player has 10 points. It is entertaining and diverse. It doesn't go on for hours, but requires skill in deciding where to develop, and how to use resources. I can recommmend this to adult players.
