Analyzing 50 of his watercolours, and tracking his methods and technique along the way, the author suggests how to approach painting sessions to get improved results. Describing how he proceeds, from the moment he first sees a scene to putting the final touches to the painting, he discusses the importance of preliminary sketches, planning the approach carefully, and simplifying the scene effectively. Ray Campbell Smith was an art teacher for many years before taking up painting full-time. He has written seven previous books on art and made eight instructional videos, and is a regular contributor to "Leisure Painter" magazine.

A Beautiful Book
This book of watercolour illustrations is simply beautiful in its content and variety. However although there are a great many techniques suggested for the user, it is rather beyond the scope of the raw beginner. That is not to say that it isn't a worthwhile buy for the dedicated beginner, who will learn much in these pages about colour, tone, composition and drawing, as well as gaining an enormous amount of useful tips. An excellent book.
