Product Description

SOMETHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT, the Get Up Kids' second full-length album, has all the elements of a perfect emo record--catchy pop hooks, revving guitars, and confessional lyrics about confusion, alienation, and loss. The angst and need atthe centre of this music lends SOMETHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT an aura of youthful naivete, but the Get Up Kids have the songcraft, focus, and sincerity to back it up, giving them the edge on many of their contemporaries.
The sweet yearning expressed in the near-ballad "Valentine", for example, isdisarming, as is the introspective travelogue on the piano/acoustic-guitar duet "Out of Reach". But even when the Get Up Kids crank it up--which they do with convincing passion oncuts like "Ten Minutes" and "Holiday", the album's opener--their winning vulnerability shines through. "The Company Dime", with its Fender Rhodes piano and arpeggiated guitars, shows the Get Up Kids capable of spinning interesting textures, too, one of several pleasant surprises on this fine sophomore release.

Hasn't left my CD player!5
fantasic!! an awesome album!!! at first, i thought it was ok, but after a couple plays....i couldn't get enough of it!! 'My Apology' probably the best song on the album. great notes and guitar riffs......anyone who is everyone should have this album!!

Refreshing. Reflective. Brilliant Emotion5
I bought this album having seen the claims on Amazon of it being the best and most emotional album in the world.'We'll see about that' I thought but..WOW! This album is amazing at first the brilliance of the songs hits you but the interesting nature of the emotional lyrics is the most refreshing and worthwhile aspect of this album. The lyrics mostly deal with moving on after a break-up so frequent is this theme that the album borders on being a concept album but nevertheless it is worth your money, if you like emo or punk it is worth a try some of you will love it.

The Best and Most Moving Album In The World5
If someone asked me to pick one album from my cd collection and take it with me this would be the one. Its variation and quality make it by far the best album in the world. The Get Up Kids other albums are quality, but lack the variation of 'Something To Write Home About'. I like punk bands such as NOFX and Pennywise and also ska and light rock, but whatever your taste in music you will love this album. My girlfriend is into pop and its also her favourite album. Anyone who buys this album will find it hard to fault.

The Get Up Kids are also awesome live and I would encourage anyone to go and see them. Last time I saw them they were supported by Koufax and Stapleton, who are both also excellent bands (Some Koufax is true dad rock mind, but excellent dad rock at that).
