If the name Kelis doesn't instantly ring a bell, there's a good chance you've still heard her. For one, you may have heard her sweetly defiant voice singing "hey, I said hey, babyI got your money, dont'cha worry" on ODB's obnoxiously catchy hit "I Got Your Money". Then there's the voice all over the radio screaming "I hate you so much right now....aaaargh", which is also Kelis on the lead single from KALEIDOSCOPE, "Caught Out There". Think Mary J.Blige set slightly askew and injected with a touch of Billie Holiday and you can begin to imagine the sound of Kelis on her delightful debut.
Her greatest asset is her flexible, multipurpose voice, which shifts from smooth and sultry to a scream with swift efficiency on "Caught Out There", and can range from sweet and sensual on the trip-hoppy "Suspended" to singsong simplicity on "Game Show". On songs like "Game Show", she recalls Stevie Wonder in his '70s heyday with her ability to twist notes around hooks with expert precision--every vocal turn has its place and washes over your body as sweet as Ohio Player honey.Kelis introduces herself as a chanteuse to be reckoned withon KALEIDOSCOPE.

Amazon.co.uk Review
First heard trying to calm Ol' Dirty Bastard on "Got Your Money" from his Nigga Please, 20-year-old Kelis now appears with her own album. Multi-threat production team the Neptunes turn the aptly named Kaleidoscope into the same kind of playground they provided for ODB, and even singing the masterminds' songs, Kelis quickly establishes it as her own hip-hop-wise R&B turf. Though it quickly gained attention for the ranting "Caught Out There" ("I hate you so much right now!"), the disc proves this unique singer equally as convincing in other complex moods, such as a comic take on romantic pain ("Game Show") and an offbeat memory of childhood ("Roller Rink"). More playful than Mary J. Blige, Kelis makes as strong a first impression--and, like Blige, shows every sign of sticking around. --Rickey Wright

KELIS KICKS ASS!!!!
At first I was looking for kelis' 2nd album, 'wanderland' [which i then bought on the strength of 'kaleidoscope'] however when i saw this album i ordered it imediately!!
the first track is the 'INTRO', which i thought at first was a little weak, however after a few plays it really tells a story.
track 2: 'Good Stuff', this really rocks!!!
3: 'Caught Out There' you just have to listen to the chorus, 'i hate you so much right now'.
4: 'Get Along With You' rocks big time.
5: 'Mafia' this is by far the best track in the family.
6: 'Game Show' the beats on this song are great.
7: 'Suspended' GREAT!! the whispering of pharrell williams [of the neptunes] is haunting
8: 'Mars' funny
9: 'Ghetto Children' this is great and Marc Dorsey has a great voice.
10: 'I Want Your Love' this is a fantastic song. Kelis' dry, raspy voice really shines through.
11: 'No Turning Back' i love this song.
12: 'Roller Rink' this is a great song with an even better rap by pharrell williams on the beginning.
13: 'In the Morning' wonderful
14: 'Wouldn't You Agree', this run of the mill, cheesy love songreally lets the entire album down.
well, what can I say???
When i first heard "caught out there" i wasn't sure but then "god stuff" came along which really gave me the boost to buy the album. and it wasn't a dissapointment. The neptunes are a over every track, adding so much veriety to the project. this album is a masterpiece. Her second album is now in the making, and she has a lot to live up to. I think you'll agree if you buy it. She really is a breath of fresh air.
Simply the best soul album in years
This is a truly fantastic CD. I see that other reviews have singled out the odd track as rubbish or said that the album as a whole has some dodgy bits. This is just not true! Kelis and her production team are major talents and I only hope that this 20 year old can live up to this initial promise and that Kaleidoscope does not turn out to be some kind of aural "Citizen Kane"
