Editorial Reviews

Album Description
Classical Chillout Gold is the follow up to Pure Classical Chillout, the highly successful. Spread over 4 CDs, and covering bases including musicals, opera, film scores and advertising themes, it is the perfect classical album.

Featured on the opening disc are 12 highly evocative classical film themes and pieces, from winter blockbusters to-be Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter to recent biggies A Beautiful Mind and American Beauty. With the focus on film tie-ins that resonate with the classical market, there's also a nod to classics from the Deer Hunter, Amadeus and Dr Zhivago (subject of a major ITV drama this Christmas).

The second disc looks at more familiar everyday classical pieces taken from current ad campaigns (Orange / John Lamb, Levis / Handel) and big TV series (Blue Planet, Inspector Morse), and all time favourites such as Nessun Dorma and Adagio For Strings.

The third disc focuses on opera, including Lesley Garrett's famous take on Gianni Schicchi's "O Mio Babbino Caro" and songs from Carmen, Tosca, The Marriage Of Figaro and La Traviata, amongst others.

The final disc centres on pieces less well known by name but very familiar on listening. All feature in Classic FM's Listener's Poll of favourite all time classical pieces, and deservedly make up the longest but most relaxing disc.

Presented in a clamshell box with 4 cd wallets inside, with gold foil on white matt casings, the package will be full of both luxury and style.

Classical music at its best5
Classical Chillout Gold offers the finest selection of classical music from the premiere acts to embrace their names within the arena. The compilation comprises four discs divided into particular themes. You have the movies, adverts and classical music solely on its own. It is a real pleasure to listen to. When you are listening to classical music, you feel so relaxed and vivid thoughts and feelings arouse in your mind, if you get what I mean.

So if you love classical music like myself, buy this album.

Nice, but main films are not originals3
Overall a good collection to have your favourites in one place, however, I was disappointed to see that the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings tracks were not the original ones, instead they were a variation of, which was REALLY ANNOYING. No reference made to this. However my Classic FM Gold box has made up for this instead!

Classical Heaven5
I was drawn to this album by an advert I saw on TV, as it seemed to have all my favourite classical pieces featured on it. Tracks such as the one from American Beauty (which turns out to be Thomas Newman), the music in Chocolat (which turns out to be Satie) and the track in the Orange ad (which turns out to be Tavener).

I only realised the details after buying the album (which by the way is fantastically packaged as a white boxset and over 4CDs) as it points out on each disc the source of familiarity.

Each disc is themed to present a more enticing way in to the music (Relax At The Movies, Classical Chill (from TV), A Night At The Opera and Smooth Classics). By theming the discs, there is a coherence to what you're listening to, and also the opportunity to indulge different moods (the filmic quality of the first disc compared for instance, or the more evocative opera disc).

I've found lost gems that I never thought I'd own at home (eg the opening music from Trading Places (Mozart), and the music from the Godfather (Mascagni)), and all without scaring me off as traditionally packaged classical music does. I'm definitely going to follow certain composers up after hearing this, it's also going to be a perfect present for certain people in my family, so I can't recommend it highly enough.
