Bad romantic comedies make you scoff at their absurdity; good ones make you wish your life was that absurd. Just Like Heaven is just smart and likable enough to trigger that wishing. David (Mark Ruffalo, Collateral, You Can Count On Me) finds an amazing apartment in San Francisco--only to discover it's haunted by the spirit of the previous tenant, an overachieving doctor named Elizabeth (Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde, Election).

There's something not quite right about Elizabeth's afterlife; against his better judgement, David agrees to help her investigate her life...but finds himself digging into his own as well. The plot takes a twist that some viewers will see coming, but Just Like Heaven doesn't rely on the surprise alone; the revelation takes the story in a new and just as entertaining direction. Witherspoon and Ruffalo are two of the best romantic leads around, but the surprise is how well their contrasting flavors (perky and moody, respectively) mesh, creating a sparky, engaging chemistry. Also featuring Dina Waters (Freaky Friday), Donal Logue (The Tao of Steve), Ben Shenkman (Angels in America), and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite). Synopsis
Suspension of disbelief is a necessity albeit a pleasurable one regarding many aspects of this romantic comedy, not the least of which being that either of its good-looking leads would ever lead lonely existences. Reese Witherspoon plays ambitious medical intern Elizabeth, who regularly clocks in 20 hour days at the hospital. Her work is her life, much to the chagrin of her sister Abby, who is married, with kids, and constantly attempting to get Elizabeth to go out more. When Abby finally succeeds in setting up a blind date for her sister, Elizabeth has an accident en route while driving to meet the mystery man, and the stage is set for love.
David (Mark Ruffalo) has been apathetically searching for a new apartment in the cutthroat San Francisco housing market, while attempting to overcome his wife¿s death two years ago. When he finally finds the perfect place, nothing is going to make him leave, and this includes the blonde control freak (Elizabeth) who suddenly shows up while he¿s busy vegetating. She claims the apartment is hers, and it becomes ever clearer that Elizabeth doesn¿t remember her past, and shows irrefutable signs of being a ghost. David signs on to help her solve her own mystery, and the two grow closer even as it becomes ever clearer that they¿ll never be able to be together. The chemistry between Witherspoon and Ruffalo breathes life into the well-trod terrain of the ghost love story, while NAPOLEON DYNAMITE¿S Jon Heder almost steals the show as a bookstore worker with the Gift. The slapstick humour resulting from David¿s conversations with his invisible companion is hilarious in one standout scene, David saves a man¿s life as Elizabeth talks him through the task. The ultimate message about the power of love and wisely-used time gives added resonance to the tale.

feel-good movie with gorgeous Mark Ruffalo
Ok this is never going win Oscars or other film awards, but it's a warm, funny, feel-good comedy that's well worth watching. Reese W is her usual charming yet intelligent herself and Mark R is just gorgeous, and the chemistry between them works. With fabulous bit-parts from the hippy seer with the 'gift' and Stanford from Sex & the City, this is a perfect girls-night-in after a hard day at work. Just pick up the wine and chocolate with the video and enjoy!

A beautiful story
My first impression on this movie was exactly as said above!
It indulges you into a wonderful story about a man and a woman, her whom goes into a coma in hospital after a severe head injury off the road. Later on he begins to see her spirit vertually everywhere he goes but only he can see it. As he's determined to show everyone she is still there comes the time when her natural body awakens, back to normal again.

I could watch this over and over again because it's simply beautiful.

Nice and Comfortable
I watched this film on my Amazon delivered dvd on Saturday evening. I found it a nice film to mellow out with. The characters are good, as is the acting by the lead actors.

An amusing, sad and witty film. Well worth the £3.97. Keep it in your collection and watch it on a rainy afternoon, or a quiet evening in by yourself, or with your better half.
