Great Mouse
Summary: I use the computer a lot and this mouse specifically for three months. I am scoring it on three main points. Accuracy, weight and usability.
Reviewer: Living in Glasgow, Scotland I am a programmer by day and a hardcore gamer by night.
Accuracy
********
This mouse is the epitome of the word "accuracy". After several months use I have been able to put the cursor exactly where I want... first time, every time. Whatever you're aiming at be it a head shot in a game or a close button on a window... it cleanly and clinically never misses. My previous mouse was the Microsoft Optical Intellimouse which runs at 1500dpi (no slouch in its own right). This mouse is 6000dpi and you can really `feel' that difference when playing.
It moves and glides effortlessly on most surfaces and I have been able to discard my mouse mat altogether and simply use the desk. The mouse simply rolls over anything in its way and works perfectly (even when I've `forgotten' to clean/dust the table that day).
Weight
******
A previously submitted review says the mouse feels light. That just confuses me. A mouse that is aimed at the gamer and/or hardcore computer user (8+hrs a day) *should* be as light as is humanly possible to do so. Using a mouse is not a body building exercise. I can (and do) use this mouse for up to 16 hours a day and comfort (or discomfort) simply isn't an issue. Want a heavy mouse? Then get a cordless version but I have always found these to be uncomfortable after several hours use.
Usability
*********
The side buttons are a bit small and took a wee while to get used to (on the previous aforementioned optical mouse they were huge, almost panels rather than buttons) but after a day or so of use they were fine, reachable and I actually prefer them this way now. My hands are quite small with stubby fingers (so sadly I'll never be a pianist but it makes for being a great typist) so overall use of the mouse is almost perfect for my hand (and it's ambidextrous). Going back to the older mouse (which is plugged into the girlfriend's computer now) feels awkward in comparison.
Microsoft missed a trick not making the scroll wheel tilt and hopefully the next generation of laser mice will have this feature. It's the only reason it's getting 4 stars and not 5.
As for the laser itself this is simply excellent and in a class of its own. The optical one looked and functioned extremely well. It lit up red like a Christmas tree (more so when actually being used and not in `sleep mode'). However, after a while this just became boring and actually became distracting when, for instance, watching a movie curled up with the girlfriend (I'm lucky enough to have two huge monitors). We always ended up covering the mouse up with a newspaper or something to hide it. With this mouse being a laser and not reliant on optical then it doesn't have any omitting light at all which is simply wonderful.
Installation and drivers/software for this mouse are a breeze and a great feature. You can program the buttons for every application/game independently. For example on normal desktop use I have the right button set to minimize the desktop (and bring it back of course) whilst as soon as it loads Half Life 2 it's set to reload the ammo. Brilliant.
The magnify feature they plug quite heavily is almost useless in games as it doesn't work with OpenGL (or whatever accelerator driver your using) and the button is better reprogrammed for other purposes. It *is* handy for zooming in on the odd bit of a web page but that's about it. Apart from anything else though I have what I would consider to be this mouse' partner keyboard (Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000) which also has a zoom feature built into it.
Overall this mouse gets top marks and coupled with the keyboard makes using the computer a joy. I know this is a mouse review but I really would recommend that keyboard too. Apparently (I've just been told) the previous Microsoft ergonomic one I had was `noisy' whereas this chap is almost silent and is the touch typists dream.

Good Mouse
Easy to use mouse for left or right handed people, looks good, feels comfortable and has five programmable buttons.
Very sensitive mouse, I had the razer copperhead and can't tell the difference. The copperhead was so uncomfortable though I had to get rid of it, this feels much better to me.
The buttons on the side are a bit small but can be used fairly easily they are made like this probably so you don't click them by accident.
Overall a good mouse doesn't deserve a 2 out of 5 I would say 4 out of 5
Best Mouse, Best Price
I have, for many years spent time trying to adjust to many different types of mice. i found that very cheap mice re uncomfortable and not accurate with a DPI of 10 or below! I also found that the very expensive are good but still not worth the staggering price. This mouse is not cheap, yet not expensive, so the price is good and the feel of the mouse is good. Its says 'Gaming mouse' and as a 'gamer' i finds it very useful with buttons on the side, for example you could reload your gun with the button on the left hand side. If you are looking for a new up-to-date mouse this is the one. 5/5!
