Good foundation book5
The front cover image here (woman lying on a bed reading a magazine) differs from the image on the front cover of the edition I have (woman in hairdressers reading a magazine), however, irrespective if what is on the front cover, its the pages in between that count.

This book gives an excellent foundation into writing articles for the UK magazine market. Highly readable, with lots of practical tips and advice from a selection of editors, it also uses numerous examples of published articles written by both the authors.

From the important structural points of how to write the article in the first place, to laying the text out and obtaining suitable images, this book provides lots of information and also lots of of follow up information (websites addresses etc.)

This is not the book for you if you want to write short stories for magazines. There is a brief (very brief) chapter on this subject, but it isn't particularly useful, mainly because the subject matter is worthy of a whole book in itself. If you're intrested in writing short stories for magazines, then I would recommend that you buy a book specifically on this topic (Sophie King's "How To Write Short Stories" or Della Galton's "How To Write and Sell Short Stories" would be better).

But if you're starting out or have even dabbled in non-fiction article writing and want to consolidate your knowledge, then this is an excellent choice.
