Product Description

This book is intended as an introductory guide to Russian culture and society, suitable for sixth-form students and initial level university students, as well as general readers with an interest in finding out about contemporary Russia. Following a brief review of Russian history, the book covers a range of topics, from literature and thought, music and dance, the Russian language, art and architecture, and customs and traditions, through cinema, theatre, science and the media, to politics, education, health, work and leisure, transport, family, ethnicity and religion, and ends with a look at Russia's role in the world today.

This is NOT a language textbook! However, each chapter does contain a glossary section with useful Russian words and phrases, and the main body of the text includes many more examples of key vocabulary, which will be of help to those readers who are studying the language.

Each chapter also contains a 'Taking it Further' section, with a guide to additional reading, useful websites, and places of interest.
