Product Description

This is the story of Bernard and Francoise Moitessier's honeymoon voyage from Europe to the islands of the Pacific and back by way of Cape Horn. Setting out from Tahiti, they took the logical route" because it was the fastest, taking them through the Roaring Forties, through the high latitudes of never ceasing gale-force winds and through iceberg territory. Their survival was due to careful preparation, great seamanship and their sense of harmony with their boat, "Joshua", and the sea."

Editorial Reviews

Review
'This is a book about mystical communion, with a boat, with the water and the weather, with the creatures of the sea... I'd sooner read Moitessier than any other nautical writer alive' Jonathan Raban

About the Author
Bernard Moitessier was one of the world's great small-boat sailors. He became a legend not only among sailors for his incredible sailing feats, but also among ecologists and others for his commitment to transforming and improving the world. He wrote four other books, all classics of nautical literature: Sailing to the Reefs, The Long Way, A Sea Vagabond's World and Tamata and the Alliance: the first three are available from Adlard Coles Nautical. Bernard Moitessier died in 1994.
