Essential guide on disability benefits5
If you give advice on social security benefits or want to know about them for yourself, a friend or a relative this is the book for you. The Disability Rights Handbook explains the benefit system and all the benefit rules as well as giving you in depth advice on how to claim benefits, useful pointers when completing forms and what you can do if you have a benefit claim turned down. It also covers the interrelationship between various benefits (receiving one benefit may entitle you to another).

One word of warning. Amazon list several editions of this book but as rules on benefits change you should only purchase the latest edition (a new handbook comes out every May)

Comprensive and affordable guide to social security rights.5
This book relates to the social security system in the United Kingdom. It has been invaluable in my hunt for regulations which protect my rights in law. It is a book which outlines things most of the 'advisors' know nothing about. The courts do not fully know what the regulations are. The Citizens' Advice Bureau doesn't know them. The Social Workers don't know them. The various charities don't know them. This boils down to you, if you are stuck inside the 'regulations', very often not receiving the State assistance which is guaranteed to you. Therefore I am deeply grateful to the Disability Alliance for their exhaustive research and clear presentation of the regulations in force. Here's something you probably did not know: Care workers in the UK are disregarded for the purpose of council tax. Because your local authority probably does not know this, they will most likely be defrauding central government (for council tax benefit). Start demanding that the law is followed.
