Customer Reviews
It's great!
My daughter has the Leapster so I bought this to add a new dimension to the games she already has. We have also bought the 2nd joystick and she loves the interactivity it brings with another child and us as we can see what she's playing.
The graphics aren't great on a bigger screen nor is the sound. But my daughter hasn't commented on this and it doesn't detract from the enjoyment. It's also really easy to plug into the telly and she can do it herself. It requires different coordination than the Leapster but this didn't prove to be a problem.
It comes with a Dora game included.
If I could do it again I would still by the standard Leapster and a separate TV console, instead of the L-Max. It's nice having 2 units and adds a bit of variety.
Nice idea, poor delivery
Whilst I believe the range of games is great for a child's development, I can't help feeling they have completely messed up the actual hands on interface. Anna is all over the PC, hasn't a problem with mice or trackballs or keyboards and many other interfaces, but the pen on this thing is awful to control (she needs to use two hands!) and the joystick isn't exactly quality. I also believe the games designers aren't quite embracing the hardware, it is often not clear whether the children should be using the pen or the joystick.
I appreciate the fact that Anna being used to a mouse and trackball (and laptop pad thing) may mean that she is struggling to adjust, but from observations she is very good at controlling and adjusting to all types of hardware, but this controller is SO unintuitive she struggles!
It winds me and Anna up something chronic. Definately don't pay 50 quid anyway!
Not as good as expected!
I bought this for my 4 year old son & frankly, I'm quite dissapointed. Firstly, he has 3 games and the graphics are worse than the very old sega mega drive, I would've expected better! The joystick, has a touch screen pad, which you must use to log into the games. My 4 year old is quite advanced, but has trouble using this & in honesty, even I find it a bit too fiddly. Ok, so for his age group, the educational value, once you get logged into the game, is quite good, hence the reason for 3 starts. Im sure there are better products out there! Maybe the V-tech version maybe better. In hindsight, I should have looked around a bit more, before buying this & I'm not sure now if I would buy it again. All round gets an Ok, for value etc, but certainly not excellent
