Don't buy any other!
If you wan a Spanish dictionary don't look any further. Seriously, don't. This is a fantastic dictionary.
Each word is given with its full meanings, and put into context for easier understanding. Some words which have lots of uses have huge sections with plenty of examples so you don't get confused. Some commonly mixed up words, like 'por' and 'para' have an explanation of when each should be used.
Loads of usage examples, very accurate, and almost every word you could think of. I've said it once, but I'll say it again - don't buy any other Spanish dictionary. It's the best.
The best Spanish English dictionary there is
If you are looking for a comprehensive Spanish English dictionary then this is the one to go for. Its a weighty tome, so definitely not one for the schoolbag, but it really has got everything.
If you want to test a dictionary just try looking up some idioms, some new phrases, and some swearwords. This one passes on all three. It explains words so well that I've found myself spending half an hour just reading its notes on Spanish words.
Its miles better than the Oxford Dictionary, which is really only any good for American English.
Best Contemporary Spanish Dictionary available
I used this book for two years whilst learning Spanish and found it invaluable. Although other books may perhaps have a larger number of words, I haven't used another dictionary that comes close to this for the contemporary Spanish that people actually speak and use. It includes the less grammatical and more frequent expressions that confuse foreigners. This is to be contrasted with (for example) the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy which, whilst clearly the last word on 'correct' Spanish, often fails to keep up with a constantly evolving modern language.
