CD Description
In 1976, Rahsaan Roland Kirk left Atlantic Records after animpressive eight-year series of releases. Signing with Warner Brothers, Kirk recorded and released his last three albums, THE RETURN OF THE 5000 LB. MAN, KIRKATRON, and BOOGIE-WOOGIE STRING ALONG FOR REAL before dying in late 1977 due to complications following a series of strokes. What makes the last two of those albums even more amazing, especially considering Kirk's previous ability to play three reed instrumentsat once, is that they were recorded after the first of those strokes had paralyzed Kirk on his left side, leaving him free to play tenor sax with the use of only half of his body, which subtracts nothing from the scathing "Watergate Blues"or the sexy "Dorthaan's Walk", the later of which was dedicated to Rahsaan's wife. Though this 73-minute compilation isa handy distillation of these three albums, diehard fans might want the three-disc A STANDING EIGHT.
