Made in heaven
Steve Hillage and Rachid Taha have been collaborating to great effect since the early 90's and each collaboration gets better and better. Hybrid music which makes you dance sing and think- cross techno with Zepp metal intensity and acoustic North African instruments and the timeless beauty of Rai and Taha's fantastic voice- this is music of the here and now crossed with centuries old tradition.
I've been buying world music and Hillage albums for the last 20 years and believe me it doesnt get much better than this.
Absolutely fantastic
I read about this months agon and now wish I'd bought it on import it is that good ! I'd heard Rachid Taha on the 'Arabesque' complilation and he was very enjoyable, but here he moves from fusion grooves back to Algerain Rai in such easy steps that you are taken with him all the way, and want go go out and find more of it. The 'blurb' on the front mentions Led Zeps 'Kashmir' and they are right on at least one occasion. I suspect, however, that Rai used strings in a much more 'Kashmir' way a long time before Led Zep, and Rachid simply reclaims it. A great album to both groove to and listen. Steve Hillage plays guitar and produces. Fantastic: nothing more nor less. Album of the summer if not the year.
