Manufacturer's Description
LED Back-lit Technology TV
How does Samsung make it so slim?
How does Samsung make it so slim?
There can be only one thinnest, clearest, most elegant television. Easily, it's Samsung's LED. Breathtakingly thin, it's designed as one seamless piece of flawless crystal. On its LED screen, vivid details are captured in every frame. Picture edge-blur removed and full, robust colour restored to each pixel. Watch television programs, web content or your own, knowing you're also being kind to the environment. It's a remarkable feat of design, on or off.

LED Technology
What is LED?
Standard LCD TVs use a simple constant fluorescent lamp backlight to illuminate the image on the screen. But this type of lamp is too bright to display decent black images, so blacks can look grey and washed out. Fluorescent light also includes unwanted colours such as orange, yellow and cyan which are difficult to filter without reducing screen brightness.

How does Samsung make it so slim?
Samsung takes slimness a step further by arranging the LEDs around the outside of the screen and pointing them inwards. This optimised structure makes the Samsung LED TV incredibly slim. Some models are a mere 29mm!

Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a new technology that converts electric energy directly into light, producing a dramatic improvement in contrast and colour rendering. LED has a narrower spectrum of light with fewer unwanted colours.

Why is the Samsung picture so much better?
Samsung LED replaces ordinary fluorescent backlights with multiple LEDs that brighten, dim or turn off altogether depending on the picture on the screen giving you deep authentic blacks and a greater subtlety of colour gradiation in between.

1080p Full HD
1080p Full HD
1080p Full HD
Discover the Full HD difference. 1080p Full HD refers to images that are displayed at 1920 x 1080 resolution. With 1.5 times the scanning lines of conventional HD TV, Full HD offers more pixels, more details and superior picture clarity.

Ultra Slim
By using smaller lamps and a thinner diffuser sheet, Samsung LED TVs are 70% slimmer than equivalent fluorescent backlit televisions. This optimised structure makes the Samsung LED incredibly slim - just 29.9mm!

Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio
LED backlight technology allows for greater contrast levels, so bright images become brighter and dark images become darker.

Motion Plus
Conventional TVs display visuals at a 50Hz frame rate which means it shows 50 still images per second. Samsung Motion Plus™ runs at 100Hz or 200Hz (dependent on model), twice the rate or more of ordinary televisions, so even the fastest action scenes are precise, clear and blur-free.

Motion Plus™ works by intelligently estimating the on-screen action. Then it creates and inserts extra frames between frames. The result is a seamless, blur-free viewing experience that's perfect for sports and other fast-motion including scrolling text.

Ultra Clear Panel®
Conventional TVs display visuals at a 50Hz frame rate which means it shows 50 still images per second. Samsung Motion Plus™ runs at 100Hz or 200Hz (dependent on model), twice the rate or more of ordinary televisions, so even the fastest action scenes are precise, clear and blur-free.

Samsung's patented Ultra Clear Panel® technology gives you clear, crisp images without glare. A new anti-reflective coating delivers dramatically darker blacks, vibrant depth of colour and reduced reflection.

Media@2.0
Samsung Medi@2.0 lets your customers enjoy multimedia content from a range of sources.
Internet@TV uses widgets, small internet applications that deliver relevant web content to your TV.
Widgets make it easy to keep track of news, weather, stock markets, sports results and YouTube videos. Connection can be wired or wireless through a Samsung wireless LAN adaptor.
Photo widgets give viewers access to photo sharing services like Flickr® through their wide-screen television.
Samsung Content Library provides pre-loaded material on a range of subjects including cooking, health, games and education. The library can be customised and updated.
USB 2.0 Movie uses a simple USB interface to let your customer play music and videos and view pictures right on their TV screen.
Supports high speeds of up to 480 Mbps.
Supports FAT 16 / 32 files, the type found on USB drives, flash devices and SD cards.
Rewind, fast forward, play, pause and stop buttons on remote control.
Scroll ability. Ideal for larger content.
DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) turns the TV into a digital media player so you can watch video and view pictures saved on your PC. A wired or wireless router pairs up the TV and DLNA certified equipment like laptops, PCs and even Samsung's Omnia mobile phone, so content can be streamed from one to the other. DLNA removes the need to copy media onto a USB storage device and then connect the USB to the TV.

4 HDMI
Connect your digital world. HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) inputs transmit pure, uncompressed streams of digital data at the highest resolution. With 4 HDMI inputs (3 rear, 1 side), your TV is equipped with everything it needs to become your personal multimedia hub, allowing you to quickly connect external devices to the TV for an unrivalled audio visual experience.

    Awesome5
After seeing the 55" up close in the high street there was no going back, the picture is just awesome and once i get it attached to the Sammys HT-BD1255 surround sound i'm sure it will shake loose all my fillings.
An added bonus is that it played seamlessly all of my xvid, divx, avi videos and mp3s saved on a usb hard disk, just plug in and go.
Also on average £490.00 cheaper than the high street, well done Amazon.

Great TV, but hold on a second....4
I bought a Samsung LED UE55B7020W about 2 months ago. I agree with mostly all the reviews before mine, however I have to add a couple of criticisms.

First of all on a screen this size if you watch it in perfectly dark condition (as you should), push the blacks and colors a little bit (as it's suggested) and set your picture mode to anything but Standard (i.e. Natural, Dynamic, Movie) you will find in the four corners of your screen 4 slightly foggy areas: they are like brighter shadows that make the picture a bit milkier and softer.
I thought that was a problem with that particular TV set and, only 2 days after I bought the product, I asked the Samsung shop to replace it with a brand new one (something which didn't really happen straight away, but this was mainly a problem with the shop itself, so I won't go too much into details).
Well, I'm sorry to say the problem is still there. As I said you'll only notice this if you're watching the TV in proper darkness and the fault only shows in dark images (scenes at night for example: I was watching Pan's Labyrinth on Bluray last night and found the fault really annoying, so I had to switch to the Standard Mode and changes the settings of the Energy Saving to make my image less vivid).
I don't know if this is a particular fault with this model because of the size of the screen.
Also, it has to be said, the actual sound coming out of this TV set, is pretty bad... Obviously, in 99% of the cases, if you buy a TV like this, one expects you to have a proper Sound System too (a good Amp and good speakers), so this issue shouldn't really matter, but I had some problems with my Amp for a few days a couple of weeks ago and I had to switch to the internal speakers of the TV. I was really appalled by how bad the sound was: very thin in places, very boomy with the surround.. in other words, just not very good. I guess you really spend your money on the actual screen itself.
Finally, don't bother too much with the whole Media 2.0: it's just a bit of a waste of time. The games a re pretty useless and boring and unless you own a shop I don't really see the reason why you should go through the hassle of flipping though the pretty slow menu to have a screensaver of badly photoshopped pictures.
I wanted to rate this 3.5/5 but since I can't give half points I decided to go for 4, just because the TV looks really stylish and because on a size like this it's hard to find better picture resolution, however those faults are definitely there.
